Is 518 from Bruckner 5?

No, but you're a bit closer.  Smiley

Tommo

I don't recognize the snatch specifically, but since Bruckner 7 is in E major, let's try that one!

Baz

Sorry, No.

Ollie was close but no cigar with No.8.  Jonathan was closer with No.5.  Sadly you are further away with No.7 (although closer than No.Cool.  Is that too easy for you?

Bruckner 2!

Hurrah!  And not a moment too soon.....

It is indeed the Adagio second movement from Bruckner's second symphony.  The snatch is taken from the closing bars, but echoes the opening of the movement.  A wonderful movement, it's like fragments all strung together giving hints about what may have once laid in between.

The recording you heard was Frankfurt RSO under Inbal.

A punt at Frederick Clay's I'll Sing Thee Songs of Araby for 525.

Correct!

528 is Britten Gloriana Suite

Tommo

Correct also!

526 - Prokofiev Scythian Suite

Yes it is!

527 - Milhaud 3rd movement of Scaramouche

And so is that one!

Hurrah!

Bars 5-8 of this example reveal the origin of the Milhaud

Another clue for 517:  Mentioned on this very forum, as Reiner's No.1 musical discovery of 2007

So 517 must be Krein's Esquisses Hebraïques: Quintet for Clarinet and Strings

Do I still get points for poor guesses?  So is 520 Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony? Tommo

You do still get twenty points for poor guesses - as in this case sorry!

. . . for 519 a punt at the Bartók 1st quartet.

No not really!

Ah, so I shall go for Bartok's 2nd quartet.

523 sounds as though it could only be Schoenberg but which one? We shall try the Third Quartet.

Nor that not really!

And I shall go or Schoenberg's 4th quartet

Tommo

Bartok's second quartet is . . . incorrect.

But Schoenberg's fourth is absolutely right and the Member receives 800 points. The extract is from the first movement, what some might call the second subject.
