For 518 I'll have a punt at somewhere in the nether regions of Bruckner's 8th symphony.

Close but no

I can see it is going to be one of those hunts for the answer.

. . . for 519 a punt at the Bartók 1st quartet.

No not really!

523 sounds as though it could only be Schoenberg but which one? We shall try the Third Quartet.

Nor that not really!

521 reminds us rather of the Barraqué Concerto.

Yes that is correct - we had suspected the Member might know it. It was the composer's last finished work, premiered at the Royal Festival Hall in 1968 by clarinettist Hubert Rostaing and the B.B.C. Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gilbert Amy. It is a concerto in the course of which the contributions of the soloist are in fact somewhat rare.

Do I still get points for poor guesses?  So is 520 Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony?

Ah, so I shall go for Bartok's 2nd quartet.

523 sounds as though it could only be Schoenberg but which one? We shall try the Third Quartet.

Nor that not really!

And I shall go or Schoenberg's 4th quartet

I don't recognize the snatch specifically, but since Bruckner 7 is in E major, let's try that one!

524 is the 2nd movement of the Ravel String Quartet I think.

Thanks, Tony. I think I was rather fortunate to turn up when I did, as I imagine that this might be considered an extremely snaffleable snatch by many eager members here on the lookout for a quick score.

Well at least we got that one.

It's not really a clarinet concerto as such though. We believe Barraqué's description was Concerto pour six formations instrumentales et deux instruments which certainly implies something in the manner of a concerto grosso. The other of the deux instruments is a vibraphone.
