Well it was something of a Mickey Mouse problem. I wasted over a minute checking out 137 first.

You have the composer correctly identified, and the music is indeed for orchestra, but that is not the title by which I know it, and neither is it anywhere near the title given on the CD I have of it. So that is an incorrect solution to the problem.

Number 118: first guess is Messiaen, one of the 8 Preludes of 1929.

Second guess, his Scottish Variations of 1928, written for organ, but arranged for piano.

Incorrect, on both counts. I would advise that anyone attempting this puzzle reads all the various clues. As pointed out in Reply 626 on the discussion thread, Messiaen could not possibly have been the composer in question.

Then I will have to redeem myself by announcing that #130 is Alan Bush's Piano Concerto of 1930, with chorus and vocal soloist in the final movement.

Congratulations, Evan. It is indeed that wonderful work, as performed by Rolf Hind (not heard in the clip), Ashley Holland (baritone), Apollo Voices, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Slatkin.

Quite right, OS. Did you Google, using "Frank Bruno" and "Wallingford Riegger" as your two criteria? Wink

Right composer. Wrong work. Listen carefully and all will be revealed.
