Very humid here, too, warm but no sun, very unpleasant. I can't sleep either.

After a threatening start this morning, sunny and pleasant here at the moment (touches wood). Let's hope it is like that for Pond Clearing Sunday this weekend.

I've just spent 2 hours excavating a tree root from our garden - left after we had a tree removed last year.  Glad it's not quite so sunny here as I am worn out (but not sunburnt)!

Yet another hot day down here!! Nearly a whole week of sunshine. my goodness. We better be careful, because the water boards be telling us to conserve water, as we've had more than 2 days of sun!!

Have I missed an announcement from The Archbishop of Canterbury or The Synod?  I thought this weekend was Pentecostal Sunday?  Will you lead the ceremony of Pond Clearing Sunday with a rendition of All Creatures that on Earth do Dwell, or perhaps All Things Bright and Beautiful, all Creatures Great and Small GG?

Or....All Creatures that in Pond do Dwell followed by All Things Bright and Newtiful.....

I'll get me waders!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I do hope the Bishop of Snorbans will be there to cast his Crozier over this new addition to the Eccleciastial Calendar of the Church of England?  It strikes me that a Crozier is just the shape for tugging up pondweed?

Indeed, a day of celebration and exultation after that long dark night of the soul, Toadmire Eve.

Our horrendous thunderstorms yesterday have now made the BBC News:-

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7393654.stm

One effect of the torrential rain is that most of the blossom has been knocked off the apple and cherry trees.  Today is dull, still and misty.

It's lovely here too in Yorkshire - spent 2 hours painting the wood shed and now have to try and remove the remainder of that pesky treeroot I started on yesterday...

Very hot here, with no more than a breath of breeze; it's village fete day here, with the sound of a not-very-distant oompah-band carrying on the sultry air.  Meanwhile, a couple of hundred yards away, the main road into Brighton is gridlocked ....

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)
