Thank you, Ron

"The Pavilion Cinema in Park Avenue played an important role in Carnoustie’s leisure history. It was built in 1912 as the Park Avenue Variety Theatre. The building itself was designed in the Art Nouveau style and was a wonderful addition to Carnoustie’s facilities. The building was demolished in the 1980s.

Films were shown twice nightly at 7pm and 9pm They were of a superior nature. "   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Shame about the demolition.  Whereas Arbroath showed films of an inferior nature, I adduce.

The majority of Carnoustiacs still regard Arbroath as tantamount to bandit country, Don B. It's only fair to mention, however, that Carnoustie is often retitled 'Carsnootie' by other Scots, so the attitude of self-supposed superiority is clearly recognised across the nation.

On the other hand, Arbroath still has a 'wee train' as well as a thriving amateur theatrical culture, including the Minstrels, who still do a yearly show (and were incidentally the last in the UK to relinquish blackface) and the Webster Theatre, recently classily refurbished, and shared between amateur and professional companies.

Ron, I have made enquiries and have it on good authority from a friend of mine who has a boutique in town - the visitors are Glaswegians to a man!  Smiley

I somehow guessed that, Mills: memories (as mentioned earlier) of Southbound trains awash with stocious weegies. Since they account for about a tenth of the total population of Scotland and tend to be the most outgoing and sociable of all, it's perhaps not surprising that Glaswegians always tend to be much in evidence: also there's always been a direct rail link via the WCML and Preston and the only North/South motorway's on the West Coast, too, so Blackpool's easy for them to get to.

Yes Ron, but that's the surprising thing!  They're not in Blackpool - they're here!  Most unusual for them to come the few miles down the coast to here.  There's never enough going on for them here as a rule and I can't believe the Continental Market was a Glaswegian crowd-puller.  It'll just have to go down as one of life's mysteries.... Huh

Another glorious day in Yorkshire!  Just wish I didn't feel so ill - must've caught too much sun yesterday.

Yesterday was almost unbearable here, very stuffy, hot, humid and still. Then we had torrential thunderstorms, and today is so much better - still hottish, but breezy and fresh. I feel so much better.

Milly, my theory about the Glaswegians is that they are all r3ok readers, and said, "I believe Milly Jones lives just down the coast - let's go and have a look at her"  Smiley.

It's been a gorgeous, sunny, hot, day here today.  I haven't seen much of it personally because I decided to shampoo the lounge carpet this morning and then clear out the garage this afternoon (about time too!  5 sacks of rubbish to the tip!!!!) Everything all neat and tidy at last.

Off swimming soon with sprog then back for tea in the garden...mmmmmm. Very nice too.  Cheesy

And I've just seen Peter Moore being interviewed about winning Young Musician, on North West Tonight, bbm! Very self-possessed young lad.

Not that that's anything to do with weather - just comparing BBC regional programmes  Smiley.

Yes Mary Cahmbers. A very good Northern lad, as Sean Rafferty said on In Tune this evening. He has a bright future. Very level headed young chap. On the brass band messageboard I go on(www.themouthpiece.com), there were these mbs who said his nickname was "Pixie"! I doubt wether people will call him that now!

Very strong gusty wind here - blew over the folded table-tennis table an hour ago (heard the loud bang as it hit the patio). Angry And I'd just asked for help to move it to safety against the fence as I'd heard the wind getting up. The end of the heatwave?

Still pretty hot here MJ. I've been a bit

today, tho I haven't been cycling. It's due to cool down gradually this week.
