Listening to mini discs can be very surprising!

This piece was broadcast by a German radio station some time ago. I recorded it, but the announcer didn't mention the name of the piece (how frustrating!) and I also don't know who the composer is.

You can listen to it over here:

http://www.esnips.com/doc/62f59e1b-6021-4948-912e-274085f424a3/Mystery-Music

If you know the answer, please let us know! Wink

(Perhaps it was written by Dvorák?)

I've just been over there but I don't hear anything or see anything to click on

(I have similar problems with Sydney Grew's quizzes. I just seem to get passed from one page to another with no music in sight.)

No I certainly don't. I've read the whole page from where it says eSnips in the top left corner to Privacy Policy in the bottom right.

that's odd Tony, we all seem to have different problems playing clips, seeing links etc

On the page I see

New audio file policy

It eventually played for me but then just stuttered and started non-stop

Guess we all have our machines/firewalls set up differently

I've clicked on that "Read more" link and I get a new window that begins "esnippers' den". The text "Added to karovia.karovia's Stuff by karovia.karovia 51 minutes ago" does not appear anywhere (neither does the word "Play") and I've even done a search for the words.

It's not that important, just weird. Why is it so difficult to put up sound files when pictures are so simple?

I don't see the word PLAY, but I do the the usual player image with the pla/pause/stop buttons

Maybe it's affected by a pop-up blocker or similar program. On my desktop I might see same as you as I know some banners and logos don't appear on its screen

The player is a little Flash thing I think - I don't see it either (I'm on Firefox/Mac), but my ad blocker recognises there's something there (even if my browser doesn't...).

Why is it so hard to post music files online? Speak to these guys: http://www.riaa.com/aboutus.php

Antheil- I had that problem. I let it run for a couple on minutes, then stopped it, started it again and it was OK. (Don't know what it is though Sad )

Oh well Ted, it being now 17:13 of the clock, I dunno if I can be arsked and would rather like to put something on via my cordless headphones

Which enables me to bop around reflected in the kitchen window like Russel Brand but with better hair and no stubble

It's lovely, pim, but I don't know it and it's not in my Barlow and Morgenstern Dictionary of Musical Themes. Sad
This book's been very handy over the years, as has their companion volume of Opera and Song Themes. For those not familiar with them, each book has an index at the back with every theme converted into note names in C major or minor.*
However, B&M have failed me on this occasion! Roll Eyes

*When I was 17 I had the brilliant idea of compiling such a book of themes - until my music teacher showed me her B&M and I realised I'd been beaten to it!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Many thanks, m-j! Smiley

I now wonder if the piece is an arrangement of a piano piece. Or perhaps it's an instrumental version of a song. I really don't know. Undecided

Even better is the "Directory of Tunes" which doesn't even require you to be musically literate (or think of tonal melodies!) -- the first note of the tune is given as *, and all others are U for up, D for down, and R for repeat. After 15 notes, 99.99% of melodies are unique in this notation. Happy birthday thus goes:

The complete tune. Like it! An undergrad teaching tool hoves into view.
