However, I would point out, that when trying to post significant events, like St. David's Day (the most important day in the year) or Easter (equally important for some) one is redirected to starting a new thread, whereas one only wishes to bring Members attention to the date on the Calendar

Can someone please move this to the Coffee Bar for the love of Mike (patron saint of Cornwall as a matter of interest.)  Thanks.

And I imagine the ultimate insult the Welsh can feel is for the English to think of them as English really, but with a funny accent.

Fynni acsent?  Huh

Don't you mean Ffynni acsent Anty?  Wink

I think it's quite ffynni that the English "of" and "off" have the Welsh "f" and "ff".

the English don't need to do that: their smug, effortless superiority means they know they are the default setting for humanity, and it is tactless to rub this in to others less fortunate.

Rather looks as if St Ida of Leeuw (October 29th) might be your personal best bet for a Patron Saint, bbm. Wink

Speaking of which, this Welsh pedant notices that Mr Basilio's effortless superiority appears not to extend to spelling the Greek of his signature correctly. Or, as IRF puts it,

Bloomin typos!! And my brain cells, yes? Oh well.

We need to have a campaign for the next twelve months to lobby the goverment to have St Geirge's Day a public holiday. Its, I bet, all to do with pc i am sure thats the reason, why its not been celebrated. We English, that is people who have been born in the are of the UK, known as England, should have a PH on St George's Day.

So let me get this right - on St Geurge's Day everyone born in England gets the day off leaving the country entirely in the hands of the rest of us. I like this idea.

So help ME to try to get this right - like your good self, I'm neither English nor born in England but I do live in that country, so would my residence there not permit me to take St. Gearge's day awff for the first two reasons? (not that it matters, really, since I'm not taking it awff in any case)...

Hmmm: I sense there's a letter missing, but is it an 'a'....or an 's', perhaps?  Wink

Could we have a competition to see how many ways we can spell Jorj?

I don't see any good reason to celebrate any national day. Where one is born is a mere accident.
