The road I am looking across is Seething Lane, standing on the corner with Pepys Street.  I have not got my Highway Code, but I think the sign means "right turn only", so it does indicate Seething Lane is one way going North.  So you're both right correct.  (The church is on the corner of Seething Land and Hart Street.)

No! I said No!

Checkout:

Road Signs giving orders

The circular signs are 'directional'

The one-way sign is rectangular

The difference is: the rectangular sign will be positioned so that you will see it before you enter the one-way, and you will still have the choice to drive onto to another road. It's like a 'warning sign'.

When you see the circular signs you are already commited to going that way.

Come on Mort - this is about the ONLY place where one can legitimately use this!

From I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue a few years back:

You join us this week in Wolverhampton, the Midlands town associated with many great names from the past.

In the Middle Ages it is recorded that William Shaw, the town dog whipper, was paid 6 shillings a year to expel dogs from St John's Church by gripping them with wooden tongs and whipping them ferociously. He held the post for nearly 20 years until his enthusiasm for the task got the better of him when he attacked a group of Golden Labradors and was subsequently banned from conducting all future tours for the blind.

That's an absolute gem, Andy, thank you.  I high-mindedly avoid Radio 4 "funny" programmes, as not very funny, but obviously there is gold among the dross.

I agree with you in most cases Don B - in fact there's some anonymous "comedy" prog on R4 as I post and I'm going to have to put something else on as soon as I've finished writing this - it's dreadful.

But there are a few programmes which are indeed "gold" - and ISIHAC is definitely the goldest Wink

As are your Marigolds... Cool

Agree about ISIHAC. Don B, you've quite a few years' worth of them to enjoy!

Arrrgh!!! I wish I had read this post a couple of days ago! I set the box to record "Building a Cathedral" and the recording caught the last five minutes of this immediately before it. It looked like a fascinating programme and I hope they repeat it.

There was another programme after BAC, about Winchester, which my recording caught ten minutes of. It was presented by... a man whose name completely slips my mind... whose self-absorbed, smug delivery was extremely annoying (and always is, every time I see him)  Angry

The name Jonathan Meades comes unbidden to mind as fitting the description.

IRF, can you access the BBC iPlayer? It's available for the next 5 days there. Good luck.
