They are of course Veronika's golden cowbells (only a small selection from her vast storehouse of Almglocken, naturally). I wanted to use this rather more impressive array but it can't really be seen in its full glory at postage-stamp size.

Richard,

Did you see the opening ceremony of the World Cup last year? There was an impressive array of very large cowbells in that and they were played in an unusual manner. As for the lederhosen...

Good evening evryone. I am back from Cork and my accompanying activities. Now I reporting back on duties on the board. The accompanying went well. I got to know many people from the faculty of Cork music school. I saw Cork for the first time.
They told me that Cork music school was the first on British Islands. I was surprised that it is not London school.

I am delighted with how it went. I see you were doing very well withough me. Now I intend to join you, hope you don't mind.

You mean these? I'm sure Veronika, being a native of Munich, would have been there, but I missed out on it.

No, not those. They were held at waist height, reaching down to about the knees. They were played by repeatedly thrusting the thighs forwards.

No! Not even those.

Check out this article:

http://football.guardian.co.uk/worldcup2006/story/0,,1794336,00.html

which includes this quote:

Those whose preconceptions of Germany involve ranks of lederhosen-clad hairy-legged thigh-slappers were not disappointed as the 50-minute display began with 182 Bavarian drummers beating a tattoo.

With Nubuck shorts and braces as far as the eye could see the Allianz Arena resembled a Sound of Music convention, even more so when they were joined by stout burghers clanging oversize cow bells and 150 Schuhplatters, the dancers whose coordinated heel-and-thigh clouting drew almost as big a cheer as the German team.

I wish I could find a photo of it all.

Just thought I'd share the following weblink with you:
http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/artists/simon_schubert.htm
I found it while I was verifying the identity of the gentleman depicted on time_is_now's avatar (I find it difficult to join the dots between the young FS and the older FS - what happened?).
I have to say it made me shudder a little. I don't like pulling hair out of plugholes either. Do you think I'm phobic or something?

Nothing wrong with having a phobia about removing hair from the plughole. Esp. if you come upon a scene like that!
The Magritte-style man-in-the-mirror reminds me of a question that came up earlier this evening: if vampires have no reflection, how do male vampires manage to shave?

I don't think facial hair grows if you're undead, Kitty. (The perfect solution for today's busy people!)

The same way that blind men manage to shave, I suppose.

If you we're a vampire shaving, wouldn't you be hanging upside down from the ceiling? I'm surprised there are so few skinhead vampires around.
