let's face it, it's usually gone so fast there isn't time for any odours to linger provided the bowls are immediately picked up and washed.  I don't wash animal bowls in the kitchen sink because of bacteria, but do this outside in the utility room.  If you don't have that facility, a separate bowl of water and detergent close by would suffice.

I always washed the bowls in the utility room, too, Milly. However, when you say the food disappears quickly you're talking about dogs, I suspect. Cats are apt to decide that although it was their favourite food yesterday, they don't like it today. It takes a strong-minded person to pick up half-eaten or uneaten food and say to the disdainful cat, "You've had your chance, and I am now going to throw this food away."

I am not that strong minded person, Mary. I knew someone once who was. If food got left and scoffed by the other cats, then that was it. The cat got nothing until the next meal. I didn't like her very much  Angry

I had a cat called Sophie who loved all pasta with a tomato sauce, the more garlicky the better.

She was hit by a car (the driver actually took her to the Vet - most people wouldn't have stopped).  Anyway when I finally found where she was she was in a sorry state, badly injured jaw and hips and brain damage.  She had to learn to eat (and walk again - when I got her home she could only stagger round in a circle and collapse.)

The Vet said to start her on liquids (i.e. soups) then slowly increase the thickness and he recommended strong tastes, like Marmite.  What finally persuaded her to attempt to eat was Pilchard in Tomato Sauce Milkshake.  I slowly increased the thickness of it until she could eat more or less normally.

Unfortunately she only lived to the age of 8 as she had untreatable leukaemia.

All cats I have had love cheese and cream but I rationed them, they were treats.  I had cat once called William who loved oranges and another one who used to steal chips off your plate!

All my cats have been "rescue" cats,  some have been about 4 years old when I acquired them from Cat Sanctuaries.

My last cat I found half dead and freezing in a puddle one December night.  The Vet seemed to think she was about 8 months old.  She had a passion for roast chicken and even before I put it in the oven she was turning circles and yowling.  She always seemed to think the current meal was her last.  She also thought I cooked the chicken exclusively for her of course but she allowed me to taste it  Cheesy

Here she is up the apple tree.  She was a very, very, tiny cat and a brilliant climber and acrobat and used a lot of eyeliner.  Her name was Portia.  I miss her very much.

Thought I'd bring Pixie onto this thread since she started the cat chat over in the Grumpy Room:

And, if any cat lovers reading this haven't seen the original message in the Grumpy Room, she's 11 years old and in urgent need of a good home...

Hav'nt seen  my cat since 9.40pm last night. O well, not too worried at the moment, as he has been gone much longer than this before. It always worries me, though, when he's been out for a longtime. You always have negative thoughts.

Anty, that pic gave me quite a shock. With darker eyes and a slightly more elongated face, that could be my little, um, companion.  Smiley

Further to my previous post above, the cat was in all the time, damn it!!! My wife said he came in at 5.30am!! O well. He is now on his favourite place, or one of them, ie, top of our bedroom wardrobe!!

Bless her, Portia looks like she was a real star Antheil  Smiley  She's not dissimilar to mine either actually!  (Of course, I say "mine"...)

Blame the choice of magazine on him.  Not mine, honest, he made me do it...

My aunt's cat used to sleep on the top of the grandfather clock.

My middle child, L, has a huge fur-fabric pig lying across the end of his bed behind his pillow. Zoe climbs up onto it and kneads its back, sending herself into a state of dazed rapture. After 5 minutes or so of this, she lies down on the pig and sleeps. The reply to "Where's Zoe?" is often "She's kneading the pig!" Cheesy

Just found this rather blurred pic of Eddie which one of the kids put onto this pc. You can bury your face in his tummy, he loves being stroked and tickled. I wish I had a good selection of cat pix to choose from - I once had loads on a pc which lost everything.
