I'm very surry George but I'm confused by this... Wink

Oh, um, <embarrassed cough>, <blushes to roots and beyond>, oh that Haslemere. Earlier post amended, but too late. I was thinking of, um, a place in Cheshire that sounds just like Haslemere ... Ooh look, is that a hen harrier?

Isn't she gorgeous! You can see how happy she is Andy, kneading the carpet as you stroke her. She's a lucky cat to have you rescue her - and love her. Wink Go on, admit it, aren't you becoming just a teensy weensy bit fond of her? Cheesy

Erm well erm maybe

Ah yes, you're thinking of that Haslemere (ahem Avenue!) just round the corner here in sunny Cheshire! Kiss

Pixie had been wandering around outside since my mother went into hospital over 2 weeks ago. There's no catflap but people have been putting food and water for her in the outhouse. I went to the house on Tuesday evening but there was no sign of her so I took the food/water out of the outhouse and closed the door.

I'd already said that I wouldn't take her to be put down, but my uncle was going to do it if I couldn't find her to take her back with me. Fortunately (for her) she appeared Wednesday teatime so I grabbed her and took her indoors.

She's always out all night (although my mother said she did use a tray as a kitten) but I couldn't afford to let her out again, in case she didn't return, so I put down a tray + some litter that I'd brought with me - she didn't touch it. I walked with her outside on Thursday morning so she could have a wee but then kept her in again until we set off at c6-15. I packed everything in my van, checked the house, then picked her up and put her into the back of the van - it has a security grille so she couldn't get into the front. She was very good, meowed a bit but I kept telling her that I was saving her life! I don't think she enjoyed all the holdups on the M25 - I certainly didn't.

I'd been able to give her lots of strokes and cuddles on Wednesday evening so, although my house was very strange for her when we arrived, at least I was pretty familiar.

I was introduced to the delights of the used litter tray this morning - she'd been saving it all up since Wednesday afternoon or earlier! - but I won't go into details - at least she used it! I've had a lot of advice from a friend which has been very useful, plus people here on r3ok of course. More hints and tips always welcome.

Andy.  Give a cat an inch and they'll take a mile. Also, they always tell you they are hungry, but just on the off chance you will give them a treat, if you then give them regular food they will look at you with disdain and stalk off, tail in the air!!

I completely concur with that, Anty!! First thing this morning at 5.30, the cat was rubbing against me, purring profusely, and I was going to go upstaits, as i wasnt going to feed him at that time of the morning(!!), he got hold of my left  leg!!So the cat HAD to be fed!!

Anyone who has a cat and believes themselves to be the one in charge is hopelessly delusional Grin

Now you're all putting me off keeping Pixie Sad

Oh, and remember The First Law of Cats. ALL doors shall remain open at ALL times. Including the bathroom door Grin

Well I've been keeping some doors shut, especially my bedroom door. I heard a few meows from her before I dropped off last night but nothing more. She doesn't actually get off the floor at all - presumably she's never been allowed onto chairs or laps - but I sleep very close to the floor so she might be happy walking over me during the night - I'm not sure I would be happy though.

She was sitting under the stepladder on the landing again this morning. I've put her in the kitchen at night - which doesn't have a door - but shutting all other doors so she can go into the hall and landing as well.

Andy, it sounds as though Pixie has found her 'spot' under the step ladder, at least for the time being Wink

You may want to have a look at this. The guy who made it certainly knows cats Grin Seasoned cat caretakers will find much instantly recognisable .... Cheesy

Some cats don't like laps. Ours very rarely choose to sleep on a lap. A friend doesn't (in theory) let her cat onto the sofa but as soon as her back's turned... a cat will do what it wants to do. It would probably only not jump up if it's been severely punished, eg smacked, in the past. I do hope this isn't the reason Pixie doesn't jump up. Sad

Cruel man! Wink Sounds as though she'd like to snuggle up on your duvet.

Our cats take turns to pin me down at night - though not usually more than 2 at a time! I don't mind that - what does annoy me is Tigger sitting on my glasses on the bedside cupboard meowing at me cos he wants to go out but hasn't actually checked for himself that the door is open - which it always is!

Update on her progress please Andy! Have you tried her with a piece of string to see if she's playful? (Trail it along in front of her to see if she pounces.) She does look very cuddly - aren't you lucky adopting such a very lovable cat! Cheesy

I was out all afternoon at cricket - so I had to leave her on her own for almost 6 hours. When I returned she was under the stepladder on the landing which seems like becoming a favourite spot. Her other favourite is behind the armchair in the computer room, though I can lure her out of there by calling her and stroking her. She's lying on the floot next to my chair as I type this. She doesn't seem to have eaten much, though she did have some of her dry Whiskas mix when I rattled her bowl about an hour ago. That's the only food I've got for her, it says on the packet that 80gm/day is all that's required - I hope so, I couldn't face anything more obviously meaty/fishy/smelly. What do you give your cats MJ?

Haven't tried any bits of string yet - she seems to be very sedate in her movements so far, can't really imagine that she'd pounce on anything, but I might be wrong.

btw, she hasn't been adopted by me yet Tongue
