I've thought of that Anty.   He'll never keep up with Dudley so I'll carry him to where I let Dudley off and then walk the pug on his harness whilst Dudley tears around like a lunatic and then either walk them both back when Dudley is worn out or carry the pug home.  I'll be able to do that for quite a while because they're really not very big.

I'm as mad as a hatter I know.  Roll Eyes I've always wanted a pug though and I've just found some pics on the net of a pug and a boxer living together and curled up asleep.  So cute!

Milly, yes I guess you can carry a pug easily (whereas you could not carry Dudley!) When you get William please post a photo of him.

I shall definitely post a picture.   Cheesy  He'll have had all his vaccinations in another fortnight so he'll be ready to meet up with Dudley.  I must take him for his boosters too before William arrives.  I've been advised to buy a fairly big cage to let him sleep in with his bed, drink and toys till he gets used to being with us.  Apparently it makes them feel secure.   Huh  Also handy to put him in till he's house trained if I had to nip out to the shop and he won't be trampled on by mistake by Mr. Clumsy.

Are you ready for (Pup's) potty-training, and chew-training? I remember when we first got Kender, he learned very quickly to go outside for bathroom breaks, but chewing was a different matter. At one point Beloved's glasses got dropped and Kender was the first to find them. Fortunately not much damage done (to pup or glasses).
To this day, if he can get hold of an empty dip container, butter container, or yogurt pot he will chew them into small unrecognizable pieces which are agony to bare feet! And chew toys aren't nearly as much fun as loofahs, shoes, plastic bottles and accidentally dropped wooden spoons!

Not actually ready for the potty training.  I've never had to do it before, the only consolation is that this is a very small dog so there should only be very small spills before he's trained.  This is where I think it is an advantage having another dog.  I'll let them both out together very frequently and he may possibly learn by example.  Boxers are notoriously destructive, but I've never had the problem because I've never left them alone for any length of time anywhere that would cause a problem.  We have plenty of dog toys but obviously there will be some chewing whilst he's teething.  Whilst I'm in I'll be able to stop him and when out he can go in his cage.  I know that there will inevitably be some problems at first because it goes with the territory.

I've just taken the kids to see the new pup at the kennels.  They're both thrilled to bits!  He'll be here in a fortnight.  I'm quite excited.  Normally I rescue animals but this is one I've actually gone out and bought and chosen rather than having had it foisted upon me, so to speak.  It'll be a learning curve and expect the house will be smelling of dettol for a while...... You're obviously crackers, Milly Grin Grin

I did something similar at just about the busiest time of my life - sort of found myself with four kittens. Kittens don't need potty training, or taking for walks, and they don't chew things, but they do scratch furniture, climb up the curtains, and get lost.

Milly, I do not know much about dogs but am I right in thinking pugs can have breathing difficulties?  Or am I thinking of pekes?

Yes, any short-nosed breed can have breathing difficulties - pugs, bulldogs, pekes...the list is endless.  Boxers can as well.  That doesn't mean they do have them, but it is a distinct possibility.  Let's face it though, any dog of any shape or size can have health problems.  They way a lot of them have been bred is to blame.  German Shepherds are very prone to hip displacements for example.  Pugs and pekes are both quite ancient Chinese breeds.  I think bulldogs probably are the worst for physical liabilities.  The longer-bodied dogs like dachshunds and bassets have back problems, long-eared dogs like spaniels have ear/canker problems, wrinkly dogs like bloodhounds and shar peis have skin problems...being alive causes problems, basically.  Like us in fact.   Sad

Thanks Kitty.  I know there will be problems but hopefully, nothing insurmountable.  Roll Eyes

I am not a dog person but when I was 6 months old Ma and Pa bought a Staffordshire Bull Terrier as a guard dog.  She was as soft as butter.  They bred her once and at about the age of 2 ? I was put in the playpen under the apple tree with the puppies.  Of course Health & Safety would not allow this now.  She died when I was 12.

I love Staffordshires, they are permanently smiling.   Cheesy
