For dog lovers.  As we have a feline place, to balance things out here is a canine place.

Mine is a little like this chap.

He's lovely

HOORAY!  Grin  My avatar is my last beloved boxer, Alfie,  who died last October aged 13.   I haven't a picture of Dudley the Dude yet, but this one is his absolute double.  It could be him.  Exactly the same markings.  Another gorgeous boy.  Kiss

I thought of starting such a thread but on past evidence on the board feared that it would be very sparsely populated. Anyway, bichon frise may look like cute little fluff balls but they can be quite feisty. Little and large act completed by a rescue greyhound.

Used to have a griffon bruxellois and a petit brabancon..like these ( a bit!)

Gorgeous, and feisty ! I bought them when I was working, they were small enough to go through the cat door when I was out!

They'd better watch out for this fellow!

I have a gorgeous German Shorthaired Pointer.... she is called "Tessera" which is the Greek word for four...she's the 4th one I've had.
My first one, "Carla" was a rescue in 1975, then I had one as a pup, called "Pandora", then "Jack" another rescue, now this gorgeous girl, the saddest rescue of them all, she had been kept in a cage & used for breeding.

They are wonderful dogs provided they have plenty of space & exercise.

I would post a pic, but my computer freaks out whenever I try to open a new window.

Alas my 16 yr old black & tan Jack Russell died in April, I miss her like crazy.

Quite a few years ago, me and my ex started to breed German Shepherds. They have always been my favourite breed of dog.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread for all the dog lovers.  Cats seem to have the monopoly on this forum.   Grin  I'd post some pics but unfortunately for some reason my computer won't let Photobucket have access to my pictures.  Whilst I'm trying to work out a way to gain access, perhaps we could all reflect on the loyal, loving nature of our canine friends.  ( I shall gloss over the fact that I only just managed to get my boxer outside in time a few minutes ago when he decided to throw up - and then eat it.  Roll Eyes)

Ahem! Well, anyway, they're loyal friends, excellent guard dogs and not a pain in the **se at all!  No not at all!  Grin

Would somebody just explain to me why I keep owning large, energetic dogs that need so much exercise?    Ok, I know.   Severe brain/logic defect.

Quote from Mary Chambers

I have a friend who had a golden retriever. Then she got another golden retriever, in case the first one died. Then the first one did die, and she is now getting another golden retriever, and so on, no doubt ad infinitum. Every day she has to exercise two large energetic dogs, whatever the weather. She seems to have a deep fear of running out of golden retrievers   .

Dog people are just weird, Mills

It's raining here , but at least I'm not out with two dogs.

Moved from Weather Thread.  Quote from Milly Jones as follows :-

Quote
Dog people are really weird I have to admit!

I don't have the same deep fear of running out of boxers.  In fact when my Alfie died at the grand old age of 13, last October just before we went on a fortnight's holiday, I had decided I would not have another dog at all.  I really meant it too.  I would definitely not have gone out and obtained one.  However.........   upon our return, my elder son announced that if I didn't take on Dudley he would have to go to Boxer Rescue because his wife couldn't cope with dog and toddler.    All my dogs, without exception, have been rescue dogs.  I couldn't bear the thought of him going to an uncertain future.  All the same, I did waver, because at 3 years of age then he would be in his energetic prime and I was tired and still upset over the last one.  I only wavered for 24 hours however.    That's how long I went without another dog.

As it happens, it has solved more problems than it has caused - well to everyone else except me anyway.  Elder son's family are free of the problem, it helped little 'un get over his grief of losing the last one and he is a very good guard dog.

It's just the exercise in all weathers that is getting to me. The teenager does help out a lot with that but of course while he's been ill he hasn't been able to as much.  Ah well, I'm fit enough to cope thank goodness.  (At the moment anyway).

There's something odd about the quotes in Milly's previous post. Mine's the bit about the friend with the golden retrievers.

I am not a dog person so won't be here much.

We have the potential to develop A Situation here Embarrassed
Senior house dog Callie (large Australian Shepherd mix) is clearly getting to the point at which she will have to see the vet. We have one large, comfy dog bed (LCDB, for large comfy dogs).
Junior house dog Kender (Yellow Lab, aka The Bumpy Dog) vies for position with Callie (if the chair which he has otherwise colonized is occupied with cats) on the LCDB. So far there have been no difficulties that could not be solved by calling Kender and letting Callie go to lay down, but how long, I wonder, before he learns not to be hoodwinked?

Erm...well I've had a go at making the quotes ok but somehow they didn't paste over quite right.  Is that better?  Huh
