Except that 'tres' needs (as you probably know?) an 'accent grave'. This provides a puzzle, as the key on the keyboard below the Escape key has ` and, with shift key ، but there is absolutely no way I can make the grave accent sit on top of an e! I've tried asking tech people but no-one knows the answer. You can type e` or `e
So I say to myself, why on earth did the keyboard makers put in a grave accent with no way to put it on top of a letter? I have the codes for accents written down somewhere, but only use them on rare occasions. But I would really like to know the answer to above mystery.

SusanDoris - if you are using Windows, try following this trail: [start] -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map
Brings up a map of all characters (including accented characters) that are available to you - just select a character, copy it and paste where needed. Because I use Character Map quite often I clicked and dragged it to a part of the start menu where I can reach it quickly.

SusanDoris It's been a while, but have you tried holding CTRL down when you press that key, followed by the 'e'? I use a Mac and the keyboard is set up a bit like the Windows one, except that for a grave accent, I have to hold down my 'option' key and press the ` button before the 'e'. I used to use Character Map all the time when I had a PC. I put it on my windows toolbar I used it so much.

Good morning. Who is happy today?
Happiness is a Saturday morning, not going to work, CD Review on, delightful Poulenc songs, blue sky, pot of strong coffee.

a pot of strong coffee is normally a good thing here, but yesterday dyslexic daughter made the coffee "I made it so strong all the grounds disappeared!" she proudly announced. She had filled the filter basket with INSTANT granules. We expect things to return to normal later today.

Well, that's brilliant - it works!! Thank you very much.
It is so very satisfying to have answers to such questions and mentally cross that off the list of things I'd like to know.

Thank you for that info - I have written it into my computer info file. It's a loose-leaf folder and every now and again I go through to see what I've written down and throw away the things that I have internalised!

Thank you too, SusanDoris. That is a suggestion I might benefit from, particularly since I use several different programs to do similar jobs and sometimes confuse myself.

Hello every one. It so good to be with so many happy people. I am back from my work. I think all six cellists played well (or well enough to pass their exam grades 3 to 5). Now with my tea and honey I can rest. This is bliss. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awtf8aPgWVk&mode=related&search=

If you go into Word and Insert Symbol, all of these keyboard shortcuts should be summarised (therefore, when you click on "ل", it should say "CTRL+:, a", and when you click on "و", it should say "CTRL+`, e"). There are lots of shortcuts that you can use in all Windows programmes like these. Once you start using them you'll probably find them quite easy to remember.

I have been trying out e with grave and on a word document it works perfectly, and I can copy and paste them here: بوووووو!! But I cannot use that LC+`+e here, because as I do that the focus jumps to the first edit area at the top of the screen. whereas RAlt+e produces ى. Any ideas?! when you have time that is....and only if you feel like considering the question.
