MabelJ, well done! Believe me, I know what that kind of auditing culture is like...

Well done, MabelJane! I know full well what these audits are like, but it's great to know that the moderation confirmed your judgements. As a Year 6 teacher, this week has been a bit stressful - KS2 SATs for those of you not in education - but my class are coping admirably. One more test to go tomorrow morning!

Thanks, martle, t-p and IGI. Glad your class is coping well, IGI. Well done.
My daughter R's doing her Y6 SATS too and, being a high-achiever is under great pressure to do well but she's poorly, full of a cold and sore throat with headaches. She's determined to sit them all. The school's happy for her to go in, do the test then go home! Her brother L's class were so good last year they took the school right up to 2nd from top of the league tables - of course the school's keen to stay up there but R's class aren't as brilliant as L's were so I doubt they will.
Where I teach is at the bottom of the league but we do what we can. Who cares about bloody league tables?!  Roll Eyes

You know that question on the Science paper about evaporation - why was there less water in the rockpool? Apparently one of our girls wrote: "Because the crab drank it."!
And the one asking what shape the moon, earth and sun are from up in space? One boy whispered anxiously to the teacher: "I don't know cos I haven't been up in space."

By the way, in the Maths this morning, my R's class were apparently tearing up the tracing paper into a net to make that cube with the circle and square on - was this a widespread method of cheating?!!! Ingenious!

MabelJane,
I am fascinated by what you write. I have no children and it is interesting for me to know what people go through to raise them.
I can see my student's parents etc, but it is different than hearing it on a board and from a real teacher.
Children give me a lot of happiness. Just to see them is great. But it is difficult too.
I have a mother of two students (brother and sister) who teaches music in a secondary school. She is a lot of fun and children are good. The little boy is doing grade 2 and a older sister is in grade 4.

I have several siblings now. Two pairs of brother and sister and two brothers. I enjoy working with them.
I like to read about how you and your children are doing. I am wishing you good things in my mind.

Brilliant! No such classics that I spotted, but we did have a chuckle a couple of weeks ago when we had a go at last year's Reading paper; there was an extract from Evelyn Glennie's autobiography and the question was something like 'Why does EG take her shoes off to perform?' Instead of answers to do with feeling the vibrations through the soles of her feet, I had answers ranging from 'because her feet get sweaty' and 'so she can adjust the straps' to 'so she can slide from instrument to instrument'!!

By the way, in the Maths this morning, my R's class were apparently tearing up the tracing paper into a net to make that cube with the circle and square on - was this a widespread method of cheating?!!! Ingenious!

Yes, one of mine did that! Well they are allowed tracing paper and it's not specified what it can and can't be used for, so...  Wink
Thank goodness they're all over now and we can get on with the rest of the term!

Friday is always good even when you're not working.  Weekends are great!

The weather here is most peculiar eg.  this morning pouring with rain and very windy and cold, lunchtime heatwave, glorious sunshine and sweltering, early evening pouring with rain and very windy and cold.  Most strange but nothing to stop us being happy.

Happiness is....a state of mind.  Wink

I'm very happy it's Friday. It's been a tough week. Best bit is putting the alarm forward 2 or 3 hours before going to sleep!

Hi again t-p and thank you for your kind words. Working with children can be very rewarding. I'm happy to share my anecdotes about kids here - there are probably lots of teachers/parents here with funny stories to relate.

I like the explanations for EG's feet IGI. I know she can feel the vibrations but I still don't understand how such a profoundly deaf person can play percussion to such a high standard - perhaps I should read that book.

Amused that one of yours used the tracing paper for that question too!  My little R managed the last Maths test then came straight home.
Hope you have a relaxing weekend after the annual SATS ordeal. And a Happy Weekend to you all! Cheers!
