I once played cymbals in the 1812 Overture. Guess who was playing bass drum, just next to me. Stephen Spielberg!! No kidding. It was at the Tanglewood Bowl, and next day he and John Williams told us all why 'ET' is so great. Like I needed to be told ...

One of my earliest musical memories is of shooting out of my seat during a rehearsal of Verdi's Requiem...my dad realised too late as the Dies Irae began that he'd sat me far too near the timpani!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

Hurrah! My fridge-freezer is restored to good health! Its condenser had frozen up and there was ice in the fan and the motor (so much for its claim to be frost-free) so the very nice repairman thawed it out, made two manufacturer-sanctioned modifications to stop it happening again, and left me with a machine with which I can live in peace and harmony

"It's practically impossible to look at a penguin and feel angry." Especially when it's dancing. (Mr Grew might not agree.)

The city is a process which always veers away from the form envisaged and desired, ... whose revenge upon its architects and planners undoes every dream of mastery. It is [also] one of the sites where Dasein is assigned the impossible task of putting right what can never be put right. - Rob Lapsley

Hurrah! In the morning I'm off to Center Parcs with my crazy friends for a weekend of fun....I plan to try to leave all the life-rubbish behind for four days of play.
See you next week.
