For some time now I've been attempting to live horizontally, Japanese-style, as this seems the only way to fit tallness (and increasing width) into rectangular boxes. I thrill to the perioic cascade of mixed media that some day may equal the kung-fu balletics of my great neice in impact. What this ideally needs is shelving that swings round by remote control or some kind of adjustable hammock thing to navigate the layers. Or weightlessness. It's a pressing issue for couples as well, ever-increasing piles of stuff, ever-decreasing personal space. I type this strapped into a National Express seat that continues this vaguely masochistic experience, a stones' throw from Terminal 5- I can almost hear the screams of the damned.
Cheesy  I don't always understand your marvellously idiosyncratic mellifluous posts mf but I do so enjoy them!  Kiss

Not sure where to post this but it's made me rather happy reading it...

Scrapbook no.1 begins with a Wimbledon News cutting from May '74 discussing the adjudication of that year's Music and Arts Festival. The adjudicator for the Strings section was Vera Kantrovitch. The article begins by praising the individuals who won medals for outstanding solo performances then moves on to comment on the duet classes. My violin duet partner and I didn't win medals but must have played quite well*:

Many of the younger duettists, experiencing this discipline for probably the first time, had difficulty and for them Miss Kantrovitch had many constructive comments. In this class LW and MJ showed how it should be done.

I think this pleases me even more now than it did then! I also rather think that I was at the peak of my career as a violinist at 13 as I didn't really get any better after that... I do have medals from those Music Festivals but always for recorder duet playing with my sister. We hated having to practise together but beat off the competition year after year. (Our father wouldn't let us enter the solo classes unless we played duets too! Wise man.)

*Probably some of the duets by Béla Bartók.

Funnily enough the Wimbledon Music Festival didn't have a kazoo class but for years there was a Bamboo Pipe Solo class that nobody entered. Until I did. Being the only one I came first! But I must have played pretty well as I was awarded sufficient points to earn a medal. The next year the Bamboo Pipe Solo class had vanished. Boo! Hiss! Spoilsports!  Grin

Pulling off Bartok duets at 13 is really something MJ. I used to find those fests a bit nerve-wracking as a greenhorn but not you clearly. What happened to your playing opportunities thereafter I wonder?
Thanks for your nice comments about my postcards from the edge of the`seat.

This is just to say that - following our 'nuptial ceremony' yesterday ( Smiley) - I shall be spending some time with my other half in Paris from tomorrow until Friday. I expect therefore that when I return I shall see that my position in the Points Table has (rightly and justly) been overtaken by several other Members who, for some time, have been close on my heels! Have fun!

Baz

Ahem.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Iron!

Thanks a lot to you all! We had a lovely day. I think Baz was suffering from post nuptual stress this morning as when trying to make a joke he dug me in the ribs and said' Say no more - Nunk nunk widge widge'
