Know what you guys. I put an order online, with World of Brass, the brass band people, on 26/03/08 and guess what? It arrived today.I phoned them up and they said,'Oh we have this new computer programme installed and it keeps on crashing all the time'!?!?Huh ??

How many times have we heard that one before.

So when i got home from work today, low and behold, there was a package on my doorstep!!(Bit silly leaving  it there, I ask you!!), but hey, it arrived. Made my day. The only trouble is, though, ive now got to catalogue them as well. But i am happy now theyve arrived, at last. Anybody else have similar trouble like this?

I missed the Laurie Taylor prog on R4 this morning:

"In the late 1970s, several of the UK's major cities were the stars of B-movies the so-called 'Quota Quickies'.

Laurie Taylor tells the bizarre story of how the cities tried to make themselves appear exciting to a captive cinema audience through the medium of a travelogue.

One such classic is called Telly Savalas Looks At Birmingham. It has the American actor extolling the virtues and history of Birmingham. His narration is unintentionally funny and wonderfully kitsch."

The film is available online - have a look at it, it's hilarious.

It's also interesting that things like the inner ring road which the film praises turned out to be less than wonderful - they've had to remove the subways since no-one would use them.

Thanks for the laugh Andy. Ye Gods! Were they trying to make Brum appear like a Dallas in England? Get that thrusting, action packed soundtrack! Cheesy Cheesy

Well I mustve been in a job for the shortest time ever, for me, anyway. I wasnt impressed by the way things were running. Rather amateurish, really, so a friend of mine spotted this job, and i am now going to be working in a non health relaled working envoirement for 32 years. Team Leader in a place called 'The Ravenswood Country Hotel'. I start Monday!! Grin Grin

I heard the programme, it's worth going to Listen Again. Of course, Telly S never actually visited Birmingham, Portsmouth or Aberdeen! Cheesy

I reckon I hope i have at least another 20 years to go before I retire. It seems a really lovely place. Royalty have stayed there in the past, like Prince Charles.

On another note,( Grin) I had a paid job with a wind bandm for the first time ever I've played in one!! It was a do at Lewes Town Hall for the vets of The Royal Sussex Regiment. Goodness me what a rowdy good natured lot they are. Great time, plus we got fed as well!! And they have asked me back to!!! The MD was in the RSR,  then went to the Scots Guards!! He k ows his stuff!! Great bloke to.

Also I have found this internet radio station, dedicated solely to bands!! www.allbrassbandradio.com(I think!!)

We had a brilliant day yesterday at the BSCC Shell show.  Got lots of cheap shells including some which I never expected to get!
Also got a huge book on Philippine Shells - this will really help with those microshells I mentioned a few weeks ago.  All added to which, the weather was fantastic - hot and sunny and the show was the busiest I think i have ever seen it!

Now all I have to do is identify these Murex and Latiaxis   Wink

Do you have a long wish-list of shells for your collection? Is it like collecting stamps or coins, with a book listing them all alongside their current dealer prices?

I used to have those annual coin books when I was a child, ever hoping that my change from the 77A would include a rare penny or ha'penny. It never did but it was always a thrill to be handed an old, worn, Victorian penny, knowing that it had been circulating for so many decades.

Mabel Jane, as a child I had my "box of treasures" which had in it a couple of worn "bun pennies" of Queen Vic.  It also had Dobbin the figure of a farm horse, a pig's tooth, a cowrie shell and a bosun's whistle amongst other things.

My Sister made off with the contents and denies all knowledge of her thieving unto this very day.  Sad
