The ties that bind

My goodness Opi, thats a wow and a half!! Well done. Please keep us up to date!!

Well, I have to wait until the summer break before my news is going ahead or not. I know, I probably said it on these boards before but as its on similar lines, I thought I mention it.

Everyone knows here that I am a brass bandman, my board name gives that away( Huh Huh), but anyway, the world famous band up in Yorkshire no less, Black Dyke band, will be going through a couple of arrangements Ive done, they are Four Sea interludes from PG(Britten); Finale from Symophony No.5(Shostakovich). The current MD, Dr Nicholas J Childs, said they will be rehearsing them in what they call 'reperoire  sessions' for the next season. So that will be taking place proabably in July. One never knows there may even be a cd, hmmmm. Wait and see.

I would think if anyone can make it work, the Black Dyke Mills Band can. And congratulations BBM on getting your arrangements picked up by such a prestigious band.

Thank you Kity Briton.

People can  be amazed and what brass bands can play. The technical advances of brass musical instruments have been as such that players advancements can be made a a faster rate than before.

I would never arrange a piece of music by anyone, if i didnt think that were possible. Infact a lot of the contemporary original pieces for brass band have become quite virtuosic and not for the sake of pyrotechnic virtuoisity either!! Quite substantial music to, eg Apocalypse(Derek Bourgeois), A night to Sing(Bramwell Tovey), A Dove Descending(Philip Wilby), Trumpets of the Angels(Edward Gregason), Music for battle Creek(Philip Sparke). You guys ought t0 look msome of these compositions up, you will be surprised!! There are plenty of others to.

Congratulations Opi! Kiss

And fantastic news from you too BBM! Kiss I'd love to hear your brass band arrangement of the PG Four Sea Interludes. I do hope the Black Dyke Band players give your arrangements the thumbs up and include them in their performances. I haven't heard many brass bands play live but I do know that they're capable of far more than just oompah oompah music!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

If we had a "scared, but on consideration actually quite relieved" room, this would go in it - but I've had the date of my viva confirmed for 26th June (I had expected it to be in September). So an "aaargh!" and a "phew" at the same time from me.

Much better to get it out of the way while it's all fresh in your mind, Tim. <smile smiley>
