I think this deserves a place in the Happy Room.

I cannot be alone in feeling heartened and warmed by a burgeoning relationship that we have seen developing between two of our Members thanks wholly to the cupiditous channels afforded by these Message Boards. I refer of course to Member Baziron, the formidable Bach Scholar, and his erstwhile nemesis, Dr Sidneigh Greugh, the Antipodean Sensualist and Paterite.

I have to tell George that he has missed a trick here! Surely an admixture of the kangaroo and lion might have been more appropriate?...

Translations (only amusing ones please!) of the Latin motto welcome.

Well, today I got final approval for the minor corrections to the thesis, and with it the go-ahead for printing and fancy binding. Four volumes in all, so will be glad when it's done and I can get back some sort of life.

The other good news is that it now looks like the reconstruction itself going to be performed this autumn in Brno (where it started life over 100 years ago) -- dates will follow as soon as I know them, but it's some time in November as part of a Janáček festival. But am pleased beyond belief that the Czechs have decided to take it up: I really didn't think that would happen so soon!

Likewise, opi, though I seem to be at a loss regarding the reconstruction. I seem to be missing some information here....

Thank you, gentlemen!

The reconstruction (which forms the bulk of the thesis) is the premiere (1904) version of Jenůfa. For years it was regarded by the experts as irrecoverable. I've often wished I'd believed them ...  It had a marvellous little production in Warsaw four years ago, prior to which it hadn't been heard for 98 years. But I've since made some textual improvements and corrections, so will be thrilled to hear the Czechs do it.
