If we had a "scared, but on consideration actually quite relieved" room, this would go in it - but I've had the date of my viva confirmed for 26th June (I had expected it to be in September). So an "aaargh!" and a "phew" at the same time from me.
We actually know each other from the same academic institution (though I shall remain incognito here). I am not, incidentally, Baz Luhrmann (upon whom you published an article)! I think you are really lucky to get a viva so soon after submitting (when I have examined PhDs I have always needed much longer than this to absorb and cross-check all the new research that is being presented!). Good luck with it. Best, Baz

Thanks Baz! (I think we only ever met briefly "institutionally" as it were, although we have since at a couple of r3ok dos.) I am not, incidentally, Baz Luhrmann That really would have been a surprise!

Good work, opilec.
If present trends continue, by 2026 every member of r3ok will have a PhD!
I shall have to think very carefully. Do I want to have a phud? Certainly not in a crowded space!

I know it is an obvious point, but does anyone else get so 'locked in' to a performance on cd of a piece and find it hard to appreciate other performances? I had a really cheap cd of 'Florida' suite which has now decided to jam quite beadly so I went to replace it , only to find it doesn't seem to exist anymore ( I was rather disappointed at this )- so I bought another pretty cheap version but with V Handley conducting... it is super!! I am so glad I had to replace my bog standard version ... I am now happpily listening to it afresh . Joy !! A

Thanks, all, for your very kind words. And all the very best of luck to trj (whom I too know from one of an earlier institution) for the viva! I'm sure you'll be glad to have it out of the way so that you can really enjoy the rest of the summer. re: brass band repertoire -- bbm, do you know Birtwistle's Grimethorpe Aria and Salford Toccata?

I shared a taxi with him after the Bax recordings, lovely bloke

Just found this - a treat for Jussi fans: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rD6vMH-bpC0I'm not very keen on Wagner but this is marvellous.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

He seems like a generous man. He's not a well person though, is he?? I must confess that i have quite a few of his recordings, including his VW Symphony cycle!!

Why does my moving Beatrix Potter cover appear when bbm quotes me, but not at the moment in my original post? I was quite proud to do my first moving image. I quoted my original post, and my stuff setting up the images is still there.
Just wondered.
