A slight consolation to my recording woes is that I've figured out how to play DVD-RAM's on my computer.

Heya you guys, I'm back!!! Holidays, I thought were supposed be fun and relaxing, exploring new things etc etc. Well I suppose in some ways me and MrsBBM have. We experienced some rather neanderthal behaviour from German and Eng;ish students who were, surprisingly left top their own devices by their teachers and were shouting their heads off to quite well late in the night, consequently, not much sleep was had by me and my wife and a lot of other guests in the hotel. Then I got Spanish Tummy(thank god for immodium!!), then I got laryngitis!! Hey wonderful time. One thing I did manage was to find the Spanish radio station that had some classical music on. Not bad. Heard quite a few pieces, eg, Shosta 5th, Elgar Cello Con, Delius Double Con,etc. Able to pick up certain bits of what the announcers were saying. Saw a couple of other places, eg Santa Sussana, Lorette Le Mar. Anyway, back home and have a band job on the Brighton seafont(this afternoon from 2 - 4), promoting the restoration of the bandstand tnat has remainded derelict, of which we are part of the campaign to restore its use. We now have funding to do that, plkus a cafe underneath the stage!!

Holidays are like that all too often, bbm. Home is much more restful! I'm wondering why you're in the Happy Room - probably because you're back at home.

I am very interested to hear that Delius' double concerto was played in Spain bbm, it is rarely performed here. Delius is held in more esteem in Europe than here Glad you are back , and that you had such a good time A

Yes thats true A, I cant understand why. I always remember Sir Andrew Davies condcuting the BBCSO in TLotP in 2000, when he did Delius's 'A walk in the paradise Garden'. One of the best perfromances ever of that piece. The prommers loved it, I certainly did. You could see how he brought the music to life. O memories.
BTW, should I be happy, on my birthday??

Not sure if this should be here or the Grumpy Old Rant Room, but... at long last, I've finished my b****y report writing!! A few weeks of pretty solid work filling in 377 boxes with subject reports and personal/social developemt comments. Now, I can turn my attentions to other tasks which have been piling up waiting for me to finish...oh, and my house went on the market today! Loving that pressure!!

Well done IGI!! They must be a b***dy nuiscance. Could do better I suppose I am happy. My wife bought me an ipod for my birthday. She got it a day late, as she suddenly saw it at half price she said, so I said well done to that. Trouble is I am having trouble in trying to operate it, ie, transfering my music files, etc. I also bought some more cds yesterday as well, in that lovely music shope in George Street, which Perfect Wagnerite and Martle know about.

bbm, are you using iTunes? (mind you I don't really know what else you could be using, so I suppose it's a stupid question) What is the nature of your problems? I'm sure that someone will come up with a solution, here or here for example, or start a new topic here?

bbm,
I have to say that I now don't download in itunes having lost my library 3 times and having had to keep starting again! I use audiograbber ( free download on computer), store all the music file on my external hard drive and transfer them to itunes( very easily- by dragging ) when I need them.
It works for me.

Ian is happy, Ian is. Gave in my final set of marks today! After an absolute mountain of stuff over the last few weeks, this is a huge relief. Still have some feedback sheets to complete, but that can wait for a few days now. Been a colourful time, listening to one woman who raps when accompanied by by Handel, and also a harp, amongst other things, a group of players who derive music for modern jazz trio from North Indian ragas, and one woman who sings pornographic texts whilst another strips completely naked and cuts herself with scissors. And reading students writing about Feldman on one hand, Regina Spektor on the other, or constructing mock-obituaries for Amy Winehouse at other moments, as well as reading a long dissertation on the effect of the menstrual cycle on the female voice. The joys of teaching (not meant ironically)

Congratulations Ian, and IGI, and all markers and report-writers everywhere who've made it to the finishing line! (I still have a bit more to do, but will be joining you in celebration very soon... )
