I've just been listening to this again, give it a go, it will bring tears to your eyes What's the deal with it? Is it meant to be funny, or?

I don't think it's intended to be funny incy
It just didn't do too much for me at all, other than make me feel slightly uncomfortable, so I thought I'd double-check in case I was missing something :/

S-s-s-something from the comments: http://www.unpleasant.org/2005/12/03/victor-lundberg-an-open-letter/#commentsAs one of Victor’s 5 abandoned children from two families let me share with you that he clearly understood the power of his voice and the spoken word. He used this highly crafted trademark all of his life to his great benefit. Perhaps fortunately so, this is how he shall be remembered by the public. However, the public honors a fake,a puppet master extraordinaire.
In truth, his personality bordered on or perhaps was sociopathic. He was estranged from all of his children and never provided financial or emotional support to any of them. He seemed incapable of making human connections but knew well how to benefit from them.
He thought little of coming to his estranged children for money. We were probably all asked for cash with never a consideration of repayment. At his death he owed many.
His true legacy is a son, Victor Jr., dead at the age of 34 from a lifestyle gifted to him by his father…a lifestyle of philandering, drug abuse and a pathology that made him dangerous to others. Another son remains lost to a world of drug abuse. His remaining son and daughters, while also emotionally affected by this man, did not succomb to his genetic or behavioral predispositions.
He used people and he used them completely. He died a drunken man on state aid in Michigan alone in a run down apartment. How do you imagine good people end up like this in life? They do not!
Find someone deserving of your memorial. You honor a creation, a carefully constructed image. The man behind the image was an empty soul devoid of love and caring. He seized every platform that might make him money. From those that knew him he is paid no honor.

Here's one of my favourite characters though it must be pretty messy to be Mr Sneeze but have no hands to hold a handkerchief I used to have a copy of Mr Sneeze but I've no idea where it is now.

It's always a source of satisfaction when the second marker comes back and says that your marks are ok. It's beginning to feel like the end is in sight. Just have a handful of composition marks to get out of the way now.

Oh there's a form to fill in for all of that. We appear to have bean bags on our heads for the ceremony... Now where is that form?

I might not be feeling too well but I've had a little treat - I've won £50 on the premium bonds. (The £1m would have been a bit more of a treat but every little bit helps....)

Further to the stuff in the Grumpy Old Rant Room from a few days ago, wanted to saying something about the positive side of marking. I've just been marking a third-year dissertation to do with contemporary punk subculture in the UK and its social function, which was really inspiring, very passionate, charged, and well-researched, and could actually learn something new from it. Do others of you know that feeling of elation when in the midst of other stuff that is generally just mediocre, you come across something that really makes clear what the best students can make of our courses?

Yes indeed, Ian! In amongst the dross, I had the great pleasure of reading a quite outstanding Orchestration portfolio the other day. Five pieces of work, from Beethoven to Messiaen, all brilliantly idiomatic and highly creative. Also, I attended two days' worth of finalist recitals which produced similarly dazzling surprises (and they were surprises!). It really is extremely heartening to see students (who in this case one has known for nearly three years and seen them through struggles, ups and downs etc.) raise their game in quite spectacular fashion sometimes and achieve things they themselves wouldn't have dreamt of being capable of a year ago, even.
