Ruth....Sorry I wont be able to get up to any Proms this year for all kinds of reasons, but mainly because I have to arrange a house-sitter, and my usual friend is busy becoming a Granny and cant commit herself...and the other volunteers are signed up in rotation for my 2 week Greek hol in Sept....Hurrah!

Mary....Thanks for the inside info on the delicious Padmore, now I know he's straight AND married I'll have to back off a bit and not flirt so outrageously with him behind the church when I go AGAIN to hear him on Friday singing Serenade for Tenor, Horn & strings.  (HAPPY ME!!) Followed by VW Sea Symphony.

I forgot to say that there was a standing ovation after the Grimes, BBM, I know you wanted ALL the details!

'Mizza' as in pizza, Tim?  Grin

That's the first time I've written it down and I hadn't realised that! No, it's Mizza as in Gazza

I'm afraid so....but at least it's on telly & R3, so I wont miss it completely.

I cant believe I'm not going ! I went up to town by myself a few weeks ago to hear them, so dont feel completely left out, and last year we had the most amazing day, at the rehearsals and then the performance with Soweto String Ensemble, dancers and all that glorious Rameau! What a day!

I bought a recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio many years ago, with Harry Christopher conducting and I religiously listen to it between Christmass and Epiphany every year.  The tenor was Mark Padmore at the start of his career, and the photo in the booklet shows him looking really sweet.

I also have Rameau's Platee, with a photo of a young Marc Minkowski, looking ever so sweet, not like the jowly and grizzled Baroque expert that Google shows him now to have become.

(I know perfectly well that there is an accent on the first e in Platee, but I can't be bothered...)

Several weeks after picking up a Freecycled organ, I am happy to report that the instrument has been installed by yours truly using block and tackle to lift it to the front porch.

With the organ you really have a home now. This organ looks as good as in one of the churches here. You can really practice on this one.
I can see that the cat is excited too.

Congratulations, Kittybriton - that's quite some gift you've been given! Freecycle's a great idea. I'm delighted with my freecycle chest of drawers and high bed - now I feel guilty cos so far I haven't given anything! I am considering parting with about 3 years' worth of Gardening magazines - they are an inspiring and relaxing read and some give sound advice.

I am actually feeling much happier since making a radical (for me!) decision about moving. I plan to rent for 6 months then buy. Which means I can move in 11 days if all goes according to plan (haven't decided exactly where I'm going yet)...<nervously happy smiley with anxiously crossed fingers and butterflies in tummy>
