Thanks all for your very kind words.  Yes, Profs Tyrrell and Pascall are on the right of the photo.  And the, um, "poorly-dressed gentleman on the left" is Philip Weller -- looking, as ...trj... observes, rather tidier than usual!  (He's currently involved in a new Dufay project with the Binchois Consort on Hyperion.)

And yes, it is rosemary. A symbol of remembrance that features prominently in Jenůfa, hence my wearing it.  I try to wear a sprig at significant Jenůfa-related events, and will no doubt be sporting one in Brno this November.

Mort, I didn't have pork that day (though you can see the all-too-obvious results of long-term consumption in my girth).  No, when I went out for a nice post-graduation meal that evening with Tyrrell and Weller, there seemed only one way to mark a PhD: I had chump!

Why not take the DLR to Lewisham? It's nearer.

Now you're talking sense! I assume you mean a quick jog through the pedestrian tunnel to Greenwich, then a boat trip up the Thames to Westminster, then another quick jog across Hungerford Bridge. Sounds good - do you go home the same way (in reverse)?

Got my last referee sorted out last night for my new healthcare job. My previous employer was taking his time, so I asked a couple of friends to do one. One of them said yes he'll do it for me. So good news!!

I've got a bigger office!
And better still, it means I don't have to share anymore!

Gosh! They that do clearing shall be rewarded with the fruits of good karma (or is it korma? one of the two).

And IGI's got a bigger cupboard. Or was that more a case of "They that go down to the school in the hols". Cheesy

Hm. Good korma. Haven't had one of those for a while.
It's more a case that those who make a fuss and fabricate come up with good arguments for having a bigger office will have a bigger office.
I'm currently scaring everyone at work with my spreadsheets.

Congratulation opilec. I have not seen you for a while.

There is a slight variation between a proper karma and korma. People who have korma usually come from background in some Slavic languages that make vowl "o" sound like "a" and sond "e" to sound like "ee" ( i ).

The people of thise peculiar nationalities have peculiar habbit to do that on a regular bases.

Also my best wishes to people who can aquire private offices.
