It reminds me of the wonderful scene in the ballet "Romeo & Juliet", where he wakes & prepares to leave the bedroom, she wakes and they dance the most ecstatic love dance, to the glorious Prokofiev score before Romeo's farewell....Oooh, I'm all out of breath now just thinking about it.

Quick ! bring me a fan and a reviving G & T...

Presently he raises the lattice, and the two lovers stand together by the side door while he tells her how he dreads the coming day, which will keep them apart; then he slips away.

Is the gentleman with the two [lettuces?] standing before a horseless cabbage?

(they don't let me out very often)

No, I'm not a complete idiot. I'm only a halfwit. In fact I'm actually a catfish.

Yes, but it looks like a nice lattice pie, the rhubarb one.

All is well with the world - just as long as I dont think too hard...

Just popped in to say that my Grumpy Room angst of yesterday has now been resolved. Phew! Apparently some numbskull, dimwit, gum chewing,  probably upspeaking, total pillock sent me a `form` letter to establish whether or not I was trying to defraud them. I have received many apologies from them and the winning combination for the Lottery this weekend.  Well, ok, maybe just the apologies,  but I can dream.......

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts.

Huzzah! Excellent news.

But what an unpleasant way of going about things. Guilty until you can prove yourself innocent, eh?

And if the person on the receiving end of the 'form' letter wasn't as on the ball as you are, Mort...  I don't like the sound of this at all. Is this process (seriously) one for a complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman?
