The right amount of stress is when you have challenges and you are not bored. At the same time you are not run down to the point of exhaustion.

How can you tell? I still make so many mistakes in Grammar and in spelling. Even I can see my mistakes when I read my posts again.

Thank you, A, very much. I don't know if you are are telling the truth or not, but it makes me feel better.

I know now the difference in pronociation of map and mop. I am finally getting it. It is not as good as yours, but at least there is a difference.

I think your English is very good, t-p. Pronunciation is a problem even in Britain, because it varies so much from region to region. Anyone who has learnt standard English pronunciation and then lives in Tyneside or Merseyside - or Ireland! - will get a shock. I often wonder how all these health workers, doctors and so on from overseas manage.

(Morning all)

There was a feature on radio 4 a few weeks ago with a "specialist" talking about some language-related subject and he repeatedly said "Pronounciation."  Is this a legitimate alternative these days or something?  Only I'm afraid I rather lost faith in everything he was saying on the basis that his pronunciation of pronunciation was flawed...  Huh

I understand people easy usually.
I found it difficult to understand people from
Birmingham(sorry if we have people from Birmingham because I understand some of them) and in Ireland I have problem understanding people from Cork. I just can not hear what sounds they are making.

Once I was in the back of the car with my two adult (30) years old students. We were going to a contemporary music concert. They tested my understanding by increasing the speed they were talking and making it softer. They lost me at the end, when they stopped articulating their words, they still understood each other.
They told me that I was good, but who really knows what I understand.

But.. it is written English t-p uses, she doesn't speak it on line. I am so glad you think her English is good, it makes me feel confident

Are you confident that you understand what I am saying, A?
Or you are confident what Mary Chambers is saying.
I think I know what I am saying. (I know what I want to say, but I am not sure what I am saying).
Thank you for your support.

The fact that Mary thinks your English is good makes me feel good as I am a little bit better at English.. that is all. I understand... some of the time... what you say t-p

Sorry, I shall get told off for this post... never mind eh!!

But you are not Russian, A! At least not as far as I know. I think t-p is Russian, but I could be wrong there. Russian is a long way from English.

No you don't see what I mean, you said that dialects are difficult to understand... t-p doesn't hear what we say, she reads it then doesn't copy any of the spellings she sees... that is all. I believe she has been in the country for about 30 years. My daughter speaks and writes perfect German ( as a German has told me) after staying for a few weeks and learning it at school. This is true.
