I'm moderately happy.  I arranged to give a guided tour for a local church of sites associated with the architect of their church.  We started at St Mary Abbots Kensington and reached the Hereford Screen in the V&A via the Albert Memorial. (The architect was George Gilbert Scott.)  In the V&A there is a temporary exhibition of frocks from the Motown girl band, the Supremes.

The high point for me was stopping in front three sheath dresses in red diamante with frou frou trimming at the hem and saying "Stop! In the name of Lurve."

The Ardabill carpet is tedious by comparison.

I'm happy that the impulse purchase of a pink ukulele in a local music shop is a big hit with Little R - she's already mastered 3 chords and is singing Waltzing Matilda to her own accompaniment instead of going to sleep.
I like the tuning of the ukulele strings - the bottom string is higher than the middle two: G C E A. It has a lovely tone for such a cheap and humble-looking instrument.

The Ukelele Orchestra of GB is coming to Brum Town Hall in December MJ, doubt I'll be going to hear them tho.

The leaflet I got also advertised a concert by the Puppini Sisters the previous day - perhaps I ought to tell Mathos? Wink

Sorry all, my previous sentence will mean little to anyone but MJ.

Mathos is a mutual cyber friend on the BBC boards - mainly in Mornington Crescent. He introduced us to the red-lipsticked Puppini Sisters - they're good at what they do but I'd rather hear lipstick-free ukuleles!

"...It's a lovely day today,
so whatever you have to do
You've got a lovely day to do it in: that's true!
But if you've got something that must be done,
And it can only be done by one,
I guess there's nothing more to say...
except it's a lovely day for saying "It's a lovely day"
Thank you kitty, what a lovely poem that is. I shall read it again when I don't feel so happy and it will make me happy.

We've just returned from the Pianothon in Manchester.  It's been a lovely day, the sun shone for much of it and my piece went very well (I thought...)
Now for a relaxing evening and going to watch "Heroes" which we've not yet had a chance to watch from Wednesday.

I'm quite jealous Jonathan... Did they have all those wonderful Steinways around.. the red one? Did you go to concerts?

Ho A,
Yes, i played one of the Steinways in the Barbarolli room, as well as the one in the foyer.  I didn't see a red one though...
We did spend some time while other people were playing but not much as I felt it was unfair to Heather to sit there for hours so we went shopping instead!  I was dismayed to find the formerly seperate section for classical CDs amalgamated into the main floor where they were playing something i'd rather not listen too.

We've just come back from the loveliest walk along the dunes with the dog.  It's been a glorious sunset and the sky looked as though it was on fire over the sea.  Beautiful flaming orange tones, with the sea both blue and silver.  Lovely new moon too.  We must have looked an odd little trio, silhouetted against the sky there, along the top of the sand dunes.  Smiley

Should be a nice day tomorrow if what they say about sunsets is really true - and it usually is.

The red Steinway seems to be moved each year, once it was by the main entrance , and another time it was on the first landing... goodness knows where they decided in their wisdom to put it this year!!!

It's a super event, I remember it well.

I'd have liked a walk across the dunes but all friday and weekend the terrible flu has raged. The Sun has had free virus samples judging fromextent of coughing about N9. Missed Gwilym Simcockand John Taylor at King's Place tonight-consolation prize =proper Gluhwein from Lidl's and return of Ed Reardon's week tommorrow -best writing on radio imho.

My brother's practically dying from the flu, Marbs. Look after yourself. There seems to be an early outbreak of a nasty strain this year.
