I thought BBM may have been referring to 'The Black [female canine]', in which the object was not to be left with the queen of spades in your hand...
I used to play that one endlessly during penniless student evenings, when I should have been composing or reading some improving text or another.  Embarrassed

Well, thanks to PW and Milly for mentioning it, I had a mention on CDR on R3 yesterday. Had  a listen to it just now too!! Fame at last!!

As I was driving to play at a friend's daughter's wedding, it was really heartwarming to hear a mention of Brassbandmaestro.  And a pretty good piece too!

Cheers BBM

It was called Black Maria in the Pan Book of Card Games when I was young.

I listened to (part of) CD Review on iPlayer solely so I could hear what was said about you, BBM!

Thanks people!! Its always worth corresponding on TOP, as I have found in the past other people have mentioned a certain recording.

DB It definetly starts with a B and ends with an D! The second letter has an A. I dont think I can mention this word on these boards!!
