Can any cricket expert explain to me how England can play so well when they won the Ashes in 2005 but now with many of that team they are so erratic (if it was a horse race they would all be dope tested) - the very reason why they are so unpredictable still gives us hope  Wink

It was 2006 when they won the Ashes and it's easy to forget how lucky they were to win them. Most of those games could easily have gone the other way. They did play a lot better then, though, than the embarrassment in Australia.

Reasons? Amongst others: poor preparation with inappropriate games beforehand and Flintoff out of form having been injured for some time.

Hussey wasn't a sure-fire contender for the test squad in 2005, and Macgrath's injury - for he was in his prime - are the main reasons for winning in 2005.

The ashes series england won had some of the most exciting finishes i can remember - unlike the one way traffic in Australia - my theory is England seem to play so much better on their home turf - maybe less temptations or diversions get in their way than when they are off the leash abroad....

England 'victory' not convincing enough.  Glad I have South Africa in the office sweepstake!

Anyone care to predict the England/Kenya game - imo think England will limp over the finishing line in first place maybe by one wicket or ten runs - Im glad Flintoff has been sacked from being captain - im convinced he plays much better without that responsibility !!!

I agree - win by 4 wickets?
btw - he's been removed from the vice-captaincy, which, i realise means he's been removed from the prospect of being captain should the worst happen to Vaughan...

I have a sneaking suspicion that England will hammer them an full the press with false hope for the next round.  If England bay first it will be a win by 100 runs and if second, by 5 wickets with 8 overs to spare.

Especially as Freddie will have fire in his belly ~ my worry about him is that he only seems to perform just after criticism.  I don't get the feeling he is motivated by the right things.
