Couldn't sleep again so am feeling (and looking) very grumpy. No major grumbles, I suppose, compared with some people, but that doesn't stop me feeling selfishly miserable. And I hate bank holidays and I don't like ANY of my summer clothes. Summer clothes are for young people - don't do a thing for me.

MOrticia asked for my grump of today and I am jumping at the opportunity to say my grump.

There are different people in the world. We get alone with some and we don't get alone with others. My grump is : Why cannot I get alone with all people? I want to love them all.
In real life it is difficult to do. Each of us has own agenda, own perception and people clash.

1.The only person I am complaining is myself. Why cann't I be perfect. I know all people fall short of perfection, but I thought that I can do it.

How`s yer pens?  Grin Grin

Note to self: Please do not misread this again

Tommo

I am told that (and I have a picture somewhere) an office junior was having trouble with the copier. In an attempt to free some jammed paper he inserted a pen, which also became stuck. Then in an effort to remedy the situation, he scrawled a quick note, which he left on the copier until a qualified engineer could attend to the matter.

The note read (or was supposed to) "Pen is stuck in copier".

While you people are having fun in a grumpy room I have all sorts of problems with fitting in the difficult tapestry of life and in a small town life (which is different than big town life see Britten opera).

I find it so hard. If one doesn't help a student to find out what he wants to do, one is too cold. If one does - he is too nosy.
I just cannot get it on the head. How to be on an even kill? Can anybody tell me?

And I am surrounded like everybody else with people doing their careers, pushy people etc. Combine it with my imperfections and how do you keep yourself on that even kill?
Where is that kill anyway?
I like to be on the kill, but I am going to fetch something green for you people on the board.

t-p,

I`m not sure that perfection is compatible with being human. Though there`s no harm in `aspiring` to it. The trouble starts when people think they actually are perfect!  I suspect that we all muddle and blunder through, most of us doing as best we can to live alongside our fellow human beings. I work roughly along the lines  of `Innocent until proved guilty` and `Above all, do no harm`. Get`s me into a hell of a mess sometimes! But it`s what feels right for me `cos I aint perfect Smiley

Here`s a quote for you  `Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.`
 Thomas a Kempis

T-p, you`re fine for us here as you are. Smiley

P.S. I apear to be having another `Box` problem today. Can`t work out what I`ve done wrong. See, told you I`m not perfect! Grin

Here's my grump (and I know that t-p will sympathise...)

Saxophones.

Or rather, the saxophone and piano repertoire.

Or rather, students who programme and attempt to play for their year end examinations pieces which are, technically and (especially) rhythmically, far beyond them.

Or rather, their tutors, who should know better, for (a) either allowing them to play these pieces or (b) chooosing them for them in the first place.

We have an hour to rehearse a half hour programme. Shouldn't be a problem - unless you have to explain the difference between a semiquaver and a demisemiquaver to them (the student, not the tutor --- although...) every time it occurs.

Grump, rant, roar, kick, moan, slam door...

[PS Apologies to all sax players out there, particularly if they DO have a sense of rhythm...]

T-P, your own feelings resonate strongly with mine. When I was working the rule was "Done right, first time, on time". "Perfect planning prevents piss-poor performance".

Now I am not able to get a job (despite having worked for some world-class organizations). I try to do what I think I do best, but the fish aren't biting. It is so easy to feel "surplus to requirements".

I hope it will encourage you if I say that your contributions here are always interesting, often entertaining, and even if it isn't intentional, sometimes funny.

I guess the bottom line is "love". Hollywood has made it something of a dirty word, but having lived in communities that cared in practical ways about their own people, and communities that wouldn't notice if you died on the street, love is the only thing that really matters. It's so much easier to watch each other's backs than to try to watch our own backs.

Jonathan,

I recommend some serious putting up of the feet this weekend. Be a sofa sloth Grin  Glad you did not return shell-less though. Any pictures of your haul forthcoming?

Hi Mort,
I'll try and post some over the weekend when I have time - there aren't that many so it shouldn't take to long!  Plus, a lady from the local geology society dropped off a lot of old shells yesterday that her father collected so i have them to sort as well!  Grin

Jonathan, is an equal passion for Liszt and shells common among pianists? (I'm not being entirely flippant, I would love to have a hobby as all-consuming as yours!)  Smiley

I don't know other pianists with passion for shells. Nabokov had a passion for butterflies.

I have a passion for doing nothing. I like to rest. I like to knit very much when I have time and good project.

Knitting is good. I heard some pianists (Horowitz) liked to play cards with friends for relaxation.
Richter loved walking and reading. I don't know about others.
Rachmaninoff loved gardening.
