Sounds as though lots of you need a piano tuner. I know a good one who lives in Streatham who is conscientious, travels the country and can actually tune a piano.

My piano tuner is a lady who, although she is fairly local, does travel around.  I've been a customer of hers for years.  She tunes a lot of the Steinways in concert halls.  I'm going to ring her tomorrow, but as she's very busy it might be a while before I can get her.  I could ring her today I suppose but don't like to disturb people at weekends.  I only really noticed how bad the piano was yesterday because I haven't played it for quite some time.

I was doing a Verdi Requiem last night (not really reason to be grumpy) and my video recorder ran out of tape half way through Pushing Daisies (reason to grump).

Now I'll have to find repeat slots / online jobs

Mr Dough, you are an angel.  I promise never to experiment with fine cuisine from north of the border again.  Smiley

Owls may have wings, though to their prey, angels are they not, young T. Experiment further with scions of the genus Haggidae with my unalloyed blessing.

Oh dear.  I've never forgotten a short piece on the unlamented Nationwide programme on the BBC, around the time of the 150th anniversary of Beethoven's death, to the effect that on the face of it Beethoven's claim to immortality was slim since he only wrote nine symphonies whereas Mozart wrote 40 and Haydn more than a hundred ...  Roll Eyes

That programme was dire wasn't it! Actually, he had just said the note was also D flat but even so!!! When he said it had loads of sharps and flats I shouted "Sharps OR flats!" at the radio!

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I am so glad you said that MJ, I thought afterwards I must have dreamt it !!! I have to say I switched off pretty sharpish (sorry , no pun intended Roll Eyes) after that.

More years ago than I care to remember, I left the third and final movement of my first piece - a piano sonata - on the Circle Line and have never seen it since and, although it would be nice to think that it's still going around and around, rumour has it that they do clean out the trains occasionally so that's unlikely. From my present perspective, I can only be astonished at my carelessness (in not leaving the whole thing on that train...)

I once left an unfinished manuscript of a new piece on the tube as well. I took this as a confirmatory sign that it wasn't turning out very well and started the piece again from scratch.
