Wasn't that how Rod Hull (of Emu fame) got killed?  I'm sure he was on the roof trying to fix his aerial and fell off.

Or did I dream that?  Huh

(I have most peculiar dreams sometimes).

George,
If you will have to have a new roof I hope you will decide quickly and forget about it. May be there is something good in it. For once, it will last for a while, you will have a good new roof. When winter will come you will be nice a dry.

I am learning to accept things and go with the flow.

The roof on the Durham garage is going to have to be replaced.
My parents were up there surveying the damage and after my mother said 'the rains just pouring through' I asked if the articles of furniture belonging to my uncle had been damaged, and my architect's desk. Transpires that Mum didn't go into the garage, didn't witness the rain 'pouring through' but also that they hadn't even thought about the state of the furniture... I'm going back on Thursday and am dreading seeing what has transpired.

I have other things about which I am grumpy but I cannot post them because I might get into trouble if I do.

Thank you t-p. Those are kind and helpful thoughts and I am sure you are right.

It is the 'flow' that is worrying me a bit actually Smiley but it is only an annoying practical problem that needs to be dealt with and then, as you say, forgotten.

George,
I hope the water is not flowing at the moment and not damaging anything.

In this uncertain world it is not possible to be ready for everything. At any given moment something can get break in a house. It amazes me how in one moment one can go from settled situation into dealing with trade people, waiting for them, paying big bills Oor even not knowing how much for sure it will cost).
It is not easy to get from initial shock and irritation to acceptance.

It seems to me that my friends take this things better than I do.
Lately what works better for me is when I care less about things.

When in doubt, wash.

Then of course, there's the risk of tying a safety line to the chimney and having the chimney fall on you.

I've been finding all BBC online services very slow for several days now - pages take ages to load, LA is dreadful, downloading a podcast takes forever - I'm doing one at the moment and it's @ 15-40 KB/sec!

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? I've tried downloading files from other sites and they've been at the normal speed.

Edit: the podcast has finished d/ling - a 26.4MB file took 26mins Sad

A very minor grump (or perhaps it's more dorian), but it seems that I have enough time to mount a small goat Himalayan expedition in between posting something and actually seeing it appear on the bbc boards.

I still appear to be in premod or whatever it's called, even though I have been posting there since the beginning of last year (although very infrequently). Today for instance I posted sth about lunchtime and it still hasn't appeared. I could post it again, but then they put your original one up and you end with two boring contributions instead of one.

I mean it's not important or anything, but it still seems to be vaguely irritating.

I'm really peed off. I recorded The Minotaur tonight. I set it for 7:35 to 10:40. I now find that it did it till the break at 9 absolutely perfectly and then, without any intervention, apparently stopped. The rest is nowhere to be seen.  Angry Angry Angry Angry

That won't be a problem eru - there are at least four recordings made by other members - we'll get you sorted out....

Was it recording at a speed too fast for the hard drive to store it all? (Or even had you checked you had enough capacity for the speed you were recording at?)

I set it at "LP", which means it would have stored four hours. When I put it in the display says (and it's clear just from looking at the disc) that there is 2 hours 32 remaining.

Um, unless you included me already, that's at least five, Ron. Part 2 can stay with the audio at LPCM, though of course from the 256kbps mp2 I seem to recall is used on BBC2 via satellite. Part 1 will have to be transcoded to AC3, however, when burning to DVD5 recordable, (I don't have dual layer DVD recordable compatibility on my old Panasonic HD/DVD recorder).
