I have to sell my car. It lives down in Durham because I can't face parking it up here. I very rarely drive it and I'm seriously at the bottom of my bank balance. But I like having a car.  Sad
I suppose this is all part of growing up and being British.

Sorry about that green staircase, Martle and Mort.  It was the greenest of the green staircases I googled, and I saw it as a nice pattern of concentric triangles rather than a representation of height...

This, apart from living in Durham , is my dilemma. I have never been without my own car before but I now I use my husband's... which is fine, but not the same Undecided

Do I buy one?... living in London but with journeys to Manchester to be made much easier if I had one.( It would save hiring one up there !!)

Do I buy one?

The cost of running one has recently risen alarmingly, I must say, to the point where I've started trying to think of alternative ways of doing some of the things I use it for, which is a great disappointment to me, being what used to be called a "keen motorist" who on the other hand couldn't afford a vehicle of his own until the ripe old age of 42, and now six years later it might be all over. Typical.

We always wait until the tank has gone to about 1/4 empty. We generally take it down to Asda(Hollingbury for those in the know), as that always seem to be th cheapest. Even then, it still costs £50 a time. Though, usually, that lasts for 2 weeks on average. Soo not as bad.

We generally cut out the middleman and stuff our coins and bills directly into the tank. This does not improve our mileage, but it does spare us the gasoline we'd have to burn to get to the station. Plus we can think of the tank as a piggy tank, to be tapped when we're low on funds for other projects.

That's fine TF - especially with your gas costing you as much as $4 per gallon. However, over here it costs us about $10 per gallon (roughly what the cost of a whole barrel of oil used to be last year). Do you think your prices will ever catch up with ours?

Let's get the math right Baz. Remember the gallons are different.

In US $4 per US gallon. That's 3.78 litres so $1.05 per litre.

In UK £1.16 per litre that's about $2.27 per litre or $8.58 per US gallon.

An Imperial gallon is 4.54 litres so that would be £5.27 per Imperial gallon or $10.32 per Imperial gallon

Yesterday I filled my Audi up with diesel, £71 (that's $139)  Undecided

Angry Makes me so grumpy when posters can't be bothered to read through all their unread posts... Wink

Actually I have a page of unread posts and no time to read them. Cry Reports to write, work to mark, assessments to record... and I'm getting fat in the process as I reward myself with Bombay Mix and chocolate. Roll Eyes
