The door technician has just phoned me. He apologised and said he has been running very late due to being stuck in Glastonbury this morning (whether he had been packing up his tent or on a job he didn't say.) He said he phoned the office at 11.00am and asked them to phone all the customers. Of course they didn't, I landed up phoning them. He is now 20 minutes away.
I have no idea how long the job will take so that means I won't attend the 5.00pm after work champagne party I was due to go to. Which doesn't really upset me.
Oh how annoying! Even if you didn't particularly want to go to the party, it's still incredibly irritating to know that you've wasted your day hanging around for people who turn up hours late. It's not even as though you can just pop out, and every time you go to the bathroom you're just waiting for the doorbell... Sympathy grumps!

Thanks Ruby2, while it is quite nice to have an unexpected day off it's difficult to settle to anything. And as for the bathroom question ........ As soon as they phoned I phoned work. Melanie has just phoned me (she really is so dipsy) asking if they had arrived and should she come and pick me up and I could just leave them in the house to sort it out? I did point out that as the door is under guarantee I would probably have to sign something and if they have my keys how do I get back in again?

Door technicians finally arrive 16:50, full of apologies, they said they had phoned Head Office and asked them to let everyone know, (which they didn't) but as he said "Which eejit booked their first call for Glastonbury the day after the Festival when everyone was leaving?" They were stuck in traffic for three hours.
Door had dropped. Door was dismantled, re-packed, hinges tweaked with Allen keys and hey presto! I don't have to leave it unlocked anymore. This should be on the Happy Thread I suppose. I was supposed to be their last customer of the morning, so I expect their afternoon customers are decidedly Grumpy.

Congrats on your working door, Ants. I suppose this means that you no longer have to peer around it in a wary fashion. Or am I confusing you with your Avatar?

Perhaps I should change my avatar! So as I was so frazzled by the events of the day I popped out to get a celebratory double pepperoni pizza as I don't have the energy to cook anything. Shame I missed the champagne do though.

Poor Pixie She's got a good fews years left in her yet, all being well. Ron got there first with the Cats Protection League. They would be happy to accept a more mature cat. A couple of neighbours here have 3 'rescue' cats between them and have had no problems. If for some reason the CPL don't take Pixie, would you consider keeping her yourself? Or, if you do take her back with you, you could speak to the local vet. They will often put up 'Good home wanted' signs in the surgery. Plus, you know people seeing that sign have already demonstrated that they care about animals. She looks lovely, I do hope you find somewhere for her I was briefly tempted myself, but I suspect my two chaps might have something to say about that! Good luck Andy. And Pixie. Thanks for the suggestions Ron, Mort & Ruby. I tried ringing the Cats Protection people in Haslemere today (my mother is actually in hospital in Haslemere though she lives a bit further north) but kept getting an answerphone. They did however ring me back later - once I'd gone out of course I also tried the one in Brum but there was no reply. I'll try again tomorrow. If the CP can't take Pixie, I'll have to have her at my house, at least for a while. I've never been a pets person, haven't owned anything since I was a kid, but there's always the chance that I might enjoy having her around the place.

It may be kismet, Andy I have a vision of cat lovers here yelling 'Yay! Go Andy! Go Pixie!' Ahem, sorry. Cat people get a bit excited sometimes

Oh dear, Mort, the mention of Cat People makes me think of this I'm heading off for a cold shower straight away. Cat people get a bit excited sometimes If you know the film you'll realise it's a bit dangerous if this happens

'Yay! Go Andy! Go Pixie!'Lots of cat lovers here to help and advise you. Cats are very good to talk to and stroking them is supposed to lower your blood pressure. Is she a friendly, purry cat? She does look lovely. I'd have her but our Katie would hate a new feline in the family - fur would fly. Another thought...as you're veggie like me you might not like the idea of stinky cat food in the house but the dry food doesn't pong too much. Ours eat Hill's Science Diet which you buy in sacks from the pet shop/vet. As long as there's lots of water available it's good for them and it doesn't attract flies in the summer. They have stinky wet food very occasionally.

That's another problem for me MJ - presumably your dry food is still non-veggie. I don't think you should force a veggie diet on an animal such as a cat - hence one major reason why I don't have a cat. I must say when I've been to feed my brother's cat that the food smells foul - I certainly couldn't have anything like that in the house.
