Marty,
Jake Ulrich, the 55 year old boss of Centrica (who are the parent company of British Gas) who earns £1m p.a. has been criticized for telling British Gas customers struggling with soaring fuel bills to "wear two jumpers"
And who was that Labour clown who recently told us to stop moaning because we are richer than ever?
Excuse me, I must dive down this rabbit hole, said Alice.

Ah, just found it, the Labour Clown who told everyone the other day to stop moaning was Tom Harris, the Transport Minister:
In his online blog, Mr Harris wrote: “We live longer, eat healthier, crime is down. The majority of us have access to the world wide web to enable even more spending — so why is everybody so bloody miserable?”
I really cannot comment further on how far removed the majority of Politicians are from reality.

Well, he is a politican so do you expect good sense from him? I expect an empathy with the electorate not a fatuous statement from an Ivory Tower. Oh I am so cross with British Gas and NuLabour. That reads as Null Labour don't it? Nul Points more like. We are a mixed bunch here, some superannuated I think, some students, some unemployed, some single mums, some OAPs thankful for their 15p a week increase and their increased Winter Fuel Allowance to £250, some normal people on basic wage treading an existence between sink and swim when it comes down to paying a fuel bill or eating. Or dying, frozen, eaten by Alsatians. The Alsatians will win because they donned two jumpers and were hairy in the beginning, and called Esau. I will now put on some soothing music.

Is our insurance company rubbish? We've been paying life insurance for over 25 years, never increased the premiums. Every year the statements come in saying what 'value' the policy has and saying the investments won't meet the sum insured. For example, one policy was originally for £40k but if I continue to pay the same premium it'll only be worth £27k, so if I drop dead tomorrow Mrs W will only get £27k. Sounds like a rubbish insurance policy. The others are not any better. I chose, a long time ago, not to pay higher premiums because I decided I would stick being employed with the same employer for as long as possible and pay lots more into the company pension (which I am now receiving having been 'retired/redundant' at age 52). So I'm not 'hard up' but those lousy insurance policies are a disappointment Is my insurance company conning me now, or was it a lousy investment from the start? John W

If I may change tack, this is the first bit of quiet since 8am after a succession of downstairs' ex-partners kids-sort who ignore you then hammer on your door every 5 mins, the guys' ashen features as they at last departed spoke volumes, the theme time hour with the rebel Ghanian bishops followed swiftly by a sucession of rap records across the way whose leads sounded like the ambassadorial Falklands Spokesman on Mogadon. I will now have a sniff at my in-tray and see what my addled consciousness can make of it.
Just a quick thank you to mf for providing posts like this - buoys in the gloaming for late-night returners to the shores of r3ok. (Quick translation: Thanks for making me smile.)
