Does anyone else here get annoyed when people keep telling them how to do things they already know how to do?

I'm a bit tired today so I might be getting over-sensitive but even so... I'm doing my best to stay diplomatic but the number of times today I've been tempted to reply to e-mails with:

"Yes I KNOW, I'm not some kind of b***** idiot..."
It is difficult, though. I don't know if I'm just getting more self-assured with age but I increasingly find myself doing jobs I know perfectly well how to do and having my time wasted by people unable to follow quite simple instructions or to use anything resembling common sense. Undecided

Jeez, how long have you got, Rubes? It's particularly galling when the 'advice' comes from someone  who thinks they know all about what I do because they've read an article about it in bluddy newspaper or magazine Angry Angry

Yes, it's a tricky balance I agree, but what's annoying me today is that someone who allegedly knows I have a degree in Graphic design was telling me how to save an image as a bitmap.  Which is just taking the wotsit, really.  It's a bit like telling Gordon Ramsay how to boil an egg.

[sigh]

I know it's diffifult unless you're psychic but this guy really was just taking the wotsit...

Thank you for rant opportunity all. I feel better now.  Smiley

We watched an episode of Frasier yesterday where he was arguing with a surgeon over how he should be doing a procedure - it was agonising.  I imagine you experience something along those lines (damned internet!)...

Ahh ... Call this a coincidence, but it was actually a couple of graphic designers that I had in mind when making my previous comment. Roll Eyes (I'm an editor.) I'd never tell them how to do something like that, but you wouldn't believe how often I end up repeating myself on quite basic things like making sure the line leading is equal in two bits of text with a similar function on different pages of a document.

Or, indeed, how often instructions like 'replace comma with semi-colon' get understood as 'replace comma with colon'.

That is a coincidence actually - the guy telling me that is the Graphic designer I'm working with (I don't do that for a living now - I write material) but they know I know more about that sort of thing than the other authors but they still insist on spoon feeding me.  I know it's just unnecessary pride that's bothering me here, but it's still bothering me.  I just need to get a grip really.  Or some more sleep.

I also share your irritation with people who don't have a clue about punctuation, especially in roles where they're being paid to do exactly that.  Grrr...

Like I said, it's probably just because I'm so tired.  I mentioned on another thread that the other half has broken himself.  He's in a lot of pain and it's really hard to watch.  Combination of lack of sleep and too much running around - I can barely keep my own house going, let alone his too.  Early night tonight.

All four categories were defined in law as 'lunatics' and their care entrusted to a statutory body, the Lunatic Commissioners.
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

'Lunacy Commissioners' rather than 'Lunatic Commissioners' I now see having checked. But it is all actually true.

The book whose title I was trying to remember is Roy Porter: A Social History of Madness.

They have Polish surgery here. I was given this information today.
It sounds like the sort of practice where they look at you, test your knee reflexes, then pull a tooth.

No, I'm not a complete idiot. I'm only a halfwit. In fact I'm actually a catfish.

I rather think it all adds up to the same thing.

At least Polish will look at me. I don't mind if they will look at my knees or my head as long as I have some attention.
My doctor doesn't even have an interest to see me.

Thankfully I have a Russian doctor here. At least I could come to her and she looked at my alergic reaction and she talked to me.

She just could not believe what treatment I have from my doctor. He has no interest what so ever.
At least polish doctor surgery will order some ultrasound tests.
I feel low at this time.  Cry
May be mortality rate here needs some boosting.

I noticed many people double posted today.
I want to do it too.
I suppose at times one can be in a bad state of mind.

Had to wait for 2 hours this mornin g at work while mrsBBM had to go for a meeting with the administration about a disciplinary hearing. We did'nt think it would take long. Took 2 hours!!! Finished at 1.45pm!! We arrived at 11.30am! OMG!! On my day off too! Supposed to be at my parents by 12.45!! MG, I was hungry. The trouble with me is. I have to watch my sugar levels, not because of being diabetic, but I do start to feel low! What a morning/and part of afternoon!!!

I finally got through to the doctor. He was not even curious to see my alergic reaction, doesn't really care. He agreed to take some more tests done tomorrow. He forgot test and did not even look at results. He is a good doctor, I like him. He is just too busy.

Doesn't sound much good to me t-p. You do seem to have to go to the doctor a lot though...!

Thank you every one for your support.

Our friends just told me that this infection is going on now in town.
That calmed me down a lot. I never had anything like that before.
The virus can go to the throat or ear or kidney.

I am telling you that because it can go to your city too (with people traveling).
I don't feel good still, but I have to go to the rehearsal with choir.
I am not terribly bad, just concerned.

Thanks again.
