Gosh, just think. No more messing around trying to fit round pieces of hardboiled egg onto square slices of bread. Genius!  Grin Grin

Probably the University of Kale has a lot to answer for in its Post Modernist Studies centering on R D Laing

However, here, having consumed a double Mars Bar I feel a bit Moby

It being a cold and gloomy day which, almost inevitably, causes my mind to think of a comforting pot of something gently bubbling away on the stove, plus it is St Paddy's Day, the choice was obvious - Irish Stew!  Smells pretty damn good as well ... <lipsmacking emoticon> Ah, 'tis the simple things.

That sounds tasty Mort and suitably warming for a day, which although it has been sunny and bright, has suddenly got freezing with a vicious wind.

For those of you with a strong consitution, or perhaps merely lacking in culinary ideas,  may I recommend Delia's programme tonight where she shows us how to make spaghetti bolognaise using tinned mince and bottled tomato sauce?  Followed by another pasta dish and fishcakes made from tinned ingredients.  We then see her go to Church (I wonder if she confesses her sins against cuisine?) and a day out with Sister Wendy.

Can't wait.

I had Irish stew for lunch, which was very tasty. Forgot to take sandwiches.
Well that's not true. I procrastinated so long before finally putting down my essay plans on paper that it was 2:30 or something ridiculous before I went to bed, so sandwiches were WAY down on my list of priorities. Meant to make them in the morning but opted for a lie-in instead.
Tonight is, as promised to self, pork loin steak rubbed with ras al hanout and slapped on a hot griddled accompanied by cabbage. The quinoa can wait. I don't have time tonight - got to be at a rehearsal at 6:45 EEK!

Imminence of my departure having suddenly sunk in, I've settled for a quick snack of toast with cheese and meat. I've got five minutes to stuff my face and make a hasty exit...

Having returned in a tranquil state, I have now cooked my dinner and am happy to report that it is lovely.
The pork is still moist but the crust is wonderfully crunchy and aromatic and tasty.
Given the title of the thread, my kitchen is now full of smoke.  Embarrassed
An extractor fan is something that would improve this flat no end! I've opened the window so we'll see...
The kitchen door seems to be doing a fair job at containing the fumes and I haven't set off the smoke detector so that must be a good thing!

In the kitchen chez DB on Sunday, my bit of baking:

I make one batch of  sugar-free Hot Cross Buns on Palm Sunday to practice for Good Friday.

Elizabeth David, adapted according to which spices I can lay my hands on.  The crosses are produced with a sharp knife, not pastry.

They look yummy!

It looks as though you've got exactly the same granite worktop as me! Same colour and everything.
