Well, I found Mort's recipe finally, in a PM. It may be back there somewhere on this thread too, but I can't be asked to look now. I'm sure she won't mind me posting it again...

MOISHE`S LAMB

1 large onion, sliced
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 green chillies, preferably the `bullet` type
1  lamb stock cube
Generous squirt of tomato puree
Neck of lamb chops (quantity up to you. I reckon 2 pieces per person)
Generous shake of paprika
Glass of red wine
Water to not quite cover

-  Soften the onions and garlic

-  Slash the chillies down one side and add them to the onions and garlic

-  Stir to mix then add the tomato puree and crumbled stock cube. Add a
dash of water. Stir again so you have a gloopy mix that is starting to
smell rather good  Add the red wine and give it another stir

-  Place the lamb on top and sprinkle with the paprika

-  Add the water to barely cover. Bring to boil then turn the heat down to
lowest setting. Cover and let it burble quietly away for 2 hours

-  After cooking I let it sit for a while so that the fat on the top can
solidify and you can lift it off with a spoon. We must think of our
   arteries!

My only question: a GLASS of red wine?? What is this? Abstension week??

I'm doing a meat-free week, so only other salad stuff with the potato tonight, though more soup and bread first.

OMIGOD, Anty scrabbles through her Church in Wales Book to find a meat free week blessed by St. David.

"No, we have done Easter and Lent, Sunday before last was Pentecost when the 3 week ban on marriages do be lifted and we wear red, last Sunday was Trinity Sunday and the CE was Comtemporary, which did not go down well on the R3 MBs, where do this sudden meat embargo come from?"  enquired Stoat.

"Obviously The Eglwys Bresbyteraidd"  remarked Bagder, nonchalantly.

"But Gordon Brown is not Welsh!" stutterd Stoat

"Perhaps someone should tell him, if he was, he might win an Election"

Ah, cariad, the week devoid of meat is for no religious reason other than that my body is my temple, and deserves a complete break from the temptations of the (butchered) flesh, isn't it?

Last week, smileys. This week, meat. There's an outbreak of Puritanism on these here boards, and I don't like it. I don't like it one little bit.

Permanent caffeine restriction here, of course, though not for any puritanical reason....

But there are at least four different cheeses in the fridge, and I'll make sure that I'm in Stan Drew's early enough before the opera on Saturday to nip into the cheese shop there. There's another wholemeal loaf a-baking now, so perhaps a morsel later tonight....

Ah, Moishe's Lamb! (it's bluddy lovely,) He would be delighted to see it proffered to a wider audience. Re. the 'glass' of wine. Depends on the size of the glass, darlink Wink Cheesy

Hope you enjoy it Mart. Gosh, I may even make it meself seeing as it's going to be a bit chilly this weekend.

Glad you enjoyed it George. I don't think the absence of garam masala will make much difference. My original recipe added 1/4 pt single cream to the soup, but nowdays I prefer to add a couple of spoons of fat-free yoghurt per portion and just stir once or twice so that the yoghurt is a sort of spiral.

Last night chez Mort, the first asparagus of the year. Beautifully tender stems with the right amount of 'bite' at the tips, topped with an organic free-range egg from a happy hen. Gorgeous golden yolk. Much nomness Smiley

I made a curry tonight without any dried pulses in it, most unusual for me. It was green pepper, mushroom, courgette, pea, green bean. With the usual Basmati, hot lime pickle, diced cucumber/fat-free yoghurt.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.
