I can never understand why people put butter (or marg) in cheese sarnies - surely the cheese gives you far more fat than you really need, why add even more?

Tonight it's a 2nd portion of a chana dal/dhal/daal (just how do you spell it? - btw, they're not chick peas, despite what you might read if you google), carrot and yellow pepper chilli which I made yesterday - with brown rice, fat free yoghurt (Yeo Valley Wink) and lime pickle.

I add red wine vinegar to my chilli - it seems to work very well. I like Tesco's lime pickle with the chilli as well since it is quite vinegary.

Home grown chillis used - from the freezer, this year's are nowhere near ready yet.

just how do you spell it?

As I understand it, because it's transliterated, there's not a 'correct' way to spell it. But I could be wrong of course!

My dauphinoise didn't quite have enough cream in it, or perhaps it was something to do with how I arranged it. The liquid all bubbled away to nothing, but it was still lovely.

In a minute I'm going to rustle up some ginger cake, plums and icecream.

Grump grump grump at fat-free yoghurt - it wants to have a plentiful fat content! Like the enormously rich Greek stuff of which I eat copious quantities with my cereal every morning.

They make 2 percent fat and fat-free versions, but the full fat one is so gorgeous I have no interest in trying the others.

I am also fond of Yeo Valley's plum and blackcurrant concoctions.  And Biopot summer fruits or peach with wholegrain.  Can't stand Rachel's - I find it really sour.

Yes, it is. I'm also actually very keen on Sainsbury's own brand - much better than the stuff from M&S or Tesco's.

I will admit to liking the Biopot range, particularly the peach one. Trouble is I can't help feeling that they taste too nice (probably because of all the sugar). They're more like eating a rather naughty dessert than a pot of 'healthy' yoghurt. Same thing with the Sainsbury's range, they're yummy. Perverse of me? Yup Roll Eyes

NOMNOMNOM +++++  I bought the first peas of the year today and wonderfully plump, sweet little beauties they are. They won't make it to the saucepan, they will be devoured straight from the pod (actually quite a few already have been Grin). I'm not sure what tickles my taste buds most, the first pea of the year (stoppit Tommo and Martle!) or tasting the first strawberry. A close run thing.

I gave up on comparisons a few years ago. I decided that I didn't care which food I liked best, let alone which fruit, or vegetable or meat. I just like to eat. There are some things which are better than others but by and large, if something's cooked well it's lovely and I'll eat it. And have seconds if there are any. Enough or too much. As Mr Blake would say.
