Hmm. This brings us to the tricky question of egg etiquette. Do you slice the top or bash? Life is full of such dilemmas. I'm sure that Mr Grew would provide the correct answer in a trice, were he to pass by here.

I am sure that Mr Grew's Man would use a pair of gilt egg scissors.

Sad Oh dear.  Sad  I opened the fridge and took one look at my Slimfast strawberry milkshake and then had two slices of toast, Bertolli and thick Manuka honey instead.   I'm not going to lose any weight carrying on like this.  I need to drop off about 10lbs pronto!  Cry

Milly - do you eat a banana for breakfast? I found that if I eat food with slow-release energy it helps me get through the morning without too many hunger pangs! (also they keep you regular)

I'm going to have to go out to the shops and buy something for dinner because I just can't face cooking (for the third night running).
This is very boring and I wish it would stop. I have things to do.

What was new to me was the recommendation that one behead the egg as soon as it's in the cup, because it otherwise will continue to cook inside that shell there... clearly that's true, but I'd never thought about it.

So much to learn about eggs, golly, they could use their own thread could not they?

But we have enough threads.

I prefer to think of it as a short-back-and-sides.

If you're eating two at the same sitting, always remember to break them both open as soon as you sit down. Nothing disappoints more than cracking your second egg open only to find that it's hard-boiled. Well that's not quite true. I can think of plenty of things that have disappointed me a lot more than finding that an egg was hard-boiled and I'm not going to go into them here. But I can think of very few things that have disappointed me more in an egg-eating scenario (given that the eggs themselves weren't wrong or anything of that sort) than finding that the second egg which I had intended to be soft-boiled was in fact hard-boiled. The thing that is definitely more disappointing in such a scenario is discovering that both are hard-boiled. That calls for tears.

Turfan, what amazed me, about boiled eggs and soldiers, is our Cousins across the Pond know not about Soldiers and their part in the eating of the egg.  Presumably you know nothing about la piece de resistance when dipping your soldiers into the yolk - Marmite soldiers?  NOM  Or, (the debate carries on) Vegemite soldiers?

Personally I am a Vegemite fan.  Far more genteel and less brash in taste.  Which considering it is Australian could be a contradiction  Cheesy

As to bashing the egg or cutting off with gilt scissors, I bash it.  Then, of course, after eating, you upturn it in the eggcup and bash the other end to stop the Witches using the shell as a boat.

Surely everyone does this?

Ah, so that's where I've been going wrong. Explains everything.
