Mort, don't forget to pick up some spinach, watercress and Beckett salad while you're there.

George, I am deeply envious! I haven't seen any at all so far A bit cruel since I am a major Fan of the Filbert Did you get them in Snorban's Market? I will give you a thousand milk white racing camels and their daughters for any information Even now I can hear the taunting sound of busy nutcrackers carried on the wind that drifts from Snorbans. Sob. Nom Gnom <crack> Mnng Gnom Gnom Gnomeroo <crack> Grnom Gnom <crack> Oooh Gnerm Gnom Right, that's enough for now ... ... well maybe just one more ... <crack> Gnomeramaroomee Gnerf Gnom Gnom Oh dear. Sorry to hear that, Mort. As you know, it was you who introduced me to the sensual nomerama that is the clust'ring filbert. I'd like to say that they came from Snorbens Market but sadly not. I scoured it from one end to the other on Saturday for both filberts and wet walnuts but nothing doing in either department. This lot came from W**tr*se where I think I persuaded the check-out lady to try some.

GEORGE GARNETT!! Have you no shame!! Quite, Mort. One expects that kind of thing in Asda or Somerfields, but certainly not in W**tr*se!

Blimey, you didn't walk over the rail bridge in Putney, did you? Yes. By myself. With a suitcase on wheels so as to announce my presence as loudly as possible to would-be attackers. Whilst texting my will to my mother. We live and learn...

Edamame beans. Now, there's a thing. I'm not sure I've ever bought any, but if your local Waitrose stocks its own edamame and adzuki bean salad, as mine does, do not hesitate to buy some. Simply delicious, with soy sauce and wasabi. Ooh, and I just discovered this serving suggestion - crisped gnocchi with edamames! NOM Oooh they both sound like a good idea - thanks Martle. I wonder how easy it is to eat with one hand? Trying to think of ideas for what to make tonight when I'm back on nursing duty. The patient is a big fan of Wasabi - sounds lovely.

You might find using the mouth more efficacious.

Seriously, I'd try to alter his diet as little as possible for the times when you (or anyone else) is there to cut the food up for him: otherwise he's likely to be eating rather a lot of slushy food: there's a limit to how much cereal, scrambled egg, beans, mice and casserole most men can stomach day after day. Might be worth thinking about things that can be picked up with one one hand as well as those that can be spooned or forked.

there's a limit to how much cereal, scrambled egg, beans, mice and casserole most men can stomach day after day. Donning Feminist guise and sturdy Doc Martens, is that a sexist remark that women can stomach cereal, scrambled eggs, beans, mice and casserole day after day whereas men cannot? When young I had relatives who ran an hotel in Sussex, they used to plate up mens and womens portions differently (i.e. womens' portions were smaller particularly in The Full English department.) Very Harry Enfield and Mr. Cholmondley I thought at the time!
