Happy tum Chez Mort. Finished off the rest of the chicken curry with some fluffy Basmati with cardamons and cinnamon. And some rather fine pickle. Delish! Smiley

Bargains of the day:
500g. of thick cut unsmoked bacon £2.99
400g. of tasty West Country cheddar £1.85

Mort, I was pleased with my purchases Wink  We had a new supermarket opened last week - therefore we have PRICE WARS!!  Which is A Good Thing as one supermarket struggles to keep its customers from the very competitive new one!!  Whole Suffolk ducks for £5 as well, although I only bought two portions and very tasty is was too.  <satisfied full tummy emoticom>

Ok, I'm in a pickle. (Not literally, you understand, despite which thread this is.) I'd promised my mum I'd bring a 4-pound sirloin of beef to hers for Xmas. She told me I should order it about three weeks ago. Yeah, yeah, I thought. Pick it up cheap from a butcher on Xmas eve more like. I just checked a couple of butchers today, and THEY ARE ALL SOLD OUT!! They have orders for the stuff going well into January. NADA! I am in the dog poo, unless some miracle happens...  Cry Cry It might have to be a frozen turkey from Iceland.  Cheesy

Thanks Ron! They look good - although timely delivery may be a problem! I'm off, family trekking, on Sunday, not getting to my mother's until Christmas Day itself. See, I wasn't planning to roam the country with a side of beef in the boot of my car, now was I?  Cheesy

Why not get it delivered direct to your mum's?

Martle, seeing as this is an emergency have you checked out, for example, the in-store butcher at your local Waitrose.? Or summat like that? Or there`s waitrose.com/christmasnews ....  Is there not a butcher anywhere in your vicinity that has a joint stashed away somewhere? Or near your ma?  For exactly this kind of situation. You`ll not be the first or the last! Kiss

Hmm... on Xmas Eve, it'd have to be. I'll look into that. Cheers, Big R!

Mort, yes, and thanks - it's the risk I don't like, though, and I thought there wouldn't be one. This'll learn me.  Cry

Mart, I`ll come clean. So far, I have done nothing at all about Christmas. Zilch. Nada. Nowt. Not even a Christmas card. I am planning a smash and grab raid on the Holloway Road tomorrow, mainly because there`s a decent butcher there and good old Waitrose.

Now watch what I laughingly call my strategy go right down the pan Roll Eyes

Marty, if there is a Waitrose where your Ma lives you can buy on-line and collect from the store so she could pick it up Christmas Eve.

Morty, can we know the results of your shopping expedition?  I am still undecided as to what culinary delights to prepare  Huh

Mort,

There's an easy solution! Convert to Russian Orthodox. If you start now you'll be way ahead of the game.... Wink
