I have just assisted at the sewing up of the chicken, which is now poaching gently. (I held the drumsticks gently together, while Sancho wielded the needle.) It is smelling interesting.
I have opened a number of parcels, including a book by Alastair Blanshard Hercules: a heroic life. This reviews the treatment of the myth ending up with a poster for the 1961 film Hercules and the Captive Women. ("What weird sadistic ritual was the secret of these women" says the poster.)
The book bears the intriguing dedication To James, for none of the obvious reasons.

Four different types of wines later, and a chicken subtly flavoured with wild garlic, I return to this board.
Tommo, thank you for the good wishes, but I am totally bemused as to what the images mean. The middle pikkie looks like basil. Don Basilio?
O hang on, the first one is some Mafia don, the second image is basil, and the third is the moon and represents O. Is that it? I was very chuffed over on Il Grande Inquisitore's thread to have bust one of his fiendish puzzles in less than two hours yesterday. Have I cracked the code again? (I am lousy at crosswords.)

Dear Don
Four different wines later, a chicken deboned and then subtley flavoured with garlic ..... I wouldn't worry about the third image or the latest crossword x

It's Io, one of Jupiter's moons, which apparently really does look like that. It's covered in volcanoes and has an atmosphere consisting mostly of sulphur dioxide.

Thank you, Richard, (and indeed tommo)
Sounds as though I would be happier at Torresmolinos, Ilfracombe or Mabelthorpe than Io. (And that's saying something.)
Posa/Sancho was concerned that I made it clear that the chicken was only half boned, Ie. the breast bone removed with chicken liver, cooked rice and chicken breast layered in place of the breast.

Well, that's only as we thought, half boned is better than fully boned, n'cest-pas?

A very Alassëa nosta to you, Don B!!
I've just found out that's elvish. Thanks, eru. I always identified more with the hobbits and dwarves than the elves. Where's my second breakast? (Or Gollum on a bad day.)

I can lurk no longer. Thank you all, each and everyone one of you for your kind wishes, particuarly Pim's loony contribution and Tony's understated reference to a common interest. I got the Romanian and Italian greetings, but eruanto's escaped me. Thank you all the same. You're welcome, d-b! Here's another nice clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7aE8x0IslQ
