I always wondered where Aaron Cassidy got that word from. Now I know that under that hard-edged uncompromising exterior there's a Scooby-Doo fan.

I don't think I can say anything helpful besides hang in there, tonybob. So, well, hang in there. And of course my usual !

Hang on tonybob. Some times I feel down with no visible reason.
May be composer of the week can distract you. I liked that new composer Frank Martin.
I had a piano teacher who used to tell me that some times the weather is not good and sometimes it is better, so is our mood and feelings. The most important thing is not to dispair and make yourself comfortable as possible.

hh, mort, tonybob et al

My best wishes to you all. I felt so down on Sun when I heard Kurt Weill/Maxwell Anderson's September Song sung by Bryan Ferry, couldn't stop crying but also, strangely enough, couldn't stop playing it/singing it to myself. Went out to watch some cricket but even that didn't entirely do the trick, my eyes were still getting a bit moist.

Cripes, yesterday I put Messiaen's St François on my iPod and then set it running while I did a few household things. Serious floodgate problems in the leper scene, and relating to the rest of the universe became completely impossible as soon as Dawn Upshaw came in.

Er, tonybob, don't put that on. Go for Haydn or something.

Sometimes getting the floodgates to open over something one understands (a film, book, music...) is a relief after the meaningless tears or dry tears that go with depression. Keep in touch with us all, tonybob; and if you can avoid the depression triggers, do.

I find the second movement of Barber's violin concerto has the same effect on me ollie. The first and last are, IMHO , wonderful , but I almost always shed a tear in the  slow movement.

It is strange how certain pieces of music ( without any memory connections) make different people collapse in a heap!

I have that with some of Vaughan Williams' songs.  Think this could be a good topic for a new thread?

Edit: Tonybob; you have my thoughts, of course.

tonybob,

As rm said, keep in touch with us all. This is an extraordinary community in terms of supporting eachother, as I have experienced. Keep talking and let us know. None of us can presume to know how you feel, but we can listen and support you, tb.

Cyber hugs and thoughts to you.

tonybob, thoughts from me too

At every one of these [classical] concerts in England you will find rows of weary people who are there, not because they really like classical music, but because they think they ought to like it. (Shaw, Don Juan in Hell)

What more can one say, tb; it must be a constant struggle. But as Oz says, best avoid the triggers...and talk to us whenever you need. We're listening (well, reading), but you know that.

All bests

Tonybob, just ride the waves, relax and you'll come out the other side again as you've done in the past.  What tablets do you take incidentally that can pick you up and lay you low as well?  I've heard of uppers and downers but not all in one pill... Undecided
