I heard a little (too little) Dudley Moore on R3 straight after the Bill Bailey this evening and was reminded of his spoof Britten/Pears song and Beethoven sonata parody (heard very recently - on Private Passions I think). I've been searching for these on a CD on the internet but have failed to find them. I've found this: http://cdbaby.com/cd/dudleywhich includes a very clever Fantasie Impromptu in C# Minor On Olde English Music Hall Songs (but doesn't, I think, include the pieces I'm looking for). You can hear it - it's track 19. For some strange reason, when I clicked on play I could hear tracks 1,2 3 and 19. His terrible illness was so tragic - what a great loss, he was such a brilliantly talented man. Such an accomplished pianist. I do hope someone can help me track down a recording.

Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.

I have ordered the DVD I linked to, so will let you all know what DM pastiches are on it when it arrived. I know it says it's Region 1, but that connot be relied upon. Amazon UK tend to regard anything in NTSC coding as Region 1. Anyway, even if it is Region 1, there are plenty of ways round that. Apart form the possibility of either chipping or using a keystroke sequnce to unlock your DVD player, there is also free legal software available to download which can rip the whole of a DVD to hard disc, and then reburn it to a DVD recordable disc without the region restriction. Some low cost external VD burners even have a facility for getting round the 5 region change limit. Mu LiteOn USB 2 external DVD burner certainly does.
I am NOT, by the way, offering any kind of service in this regard, apart from advising of the existence of the facility for each and all to get round the silly restrictions, on their own behalf.

Whilst not offering a service to do such things, could you give some more details of the (free and legal) software that you refer to?

Ian, do a bit of Googling for "DVD Shrink 3.2". There was a strange case involving it which resulting in them not being allowed to sell it, but no restriction being placed on them giving it away, so ...

Another good Britten spoof is that by Flanders and Swann, who were heard on Radio 3 during Red Nose day.

It comes from the book The Songs of Michael Flanders and Donald Swann (p 114) and it's called Guide to Britten. I must admit I don't have a recording of it and I wonder whether it ever did make it to vynil.
There are some naughty lines, for the 1950s: "But back to opera and Billy Budd, With floggings and hangings and pitch and toss, And nothing but men... Oh, it made Joan Cross!"
OO err, missus!
