Who? Ivan Wyschnegradsky

Well done h-h.

I'd not heard of him before stumbling on the photo.

And the keyboard?

Ivan Wyschnegradsky!

Fascinating composer, well worth checking out. There's a great disc of his quartets by the Ardittis, and another I have somewhere of various of his microtonal works.

Yes, quarter-tone keyboard. I assume the same instrument in both photos.

This is an informative biog:

I never heard the name of Vishnegradsky. It was very interesting article about him and pictures. Thank you very much, John W, for finding him.

For anyone interested in micro-tonal music, please consult the website of the Huygens-Fokker Institute:

Vishnegradsky's a bit of an unsung hero, I suspect, even though quite a bit of what I've heard is unrelievedly doomy. But his music seems to have far more going for it than does that of Haba. There's obviously a supporting theoretical approach to his microtonal music, but I've never seen a description of it in English. Has anyone else ?

No. Wrong continent.
Charles Ives in the middle?
No but you are warmer and on the right continent
lou harrison in the middle?
No but a lot warmer (the two of them have a lot in common) and on the right side of the right continent.

To clarify, the 'what' is a piece.
There is a clue but I won't add it until later tonight (assuming it's still unsolved by then).
Am waiting for the Aubergine to turn up and solve it in an instant.
