You do realise that you put an automatic 100 year curse on this one by calling it a 'quickie', don't you John.

Hmmm. English, England, early 20thC, pretty well off, presumably. It has a sort of distant Lutyens influence look to it. Any connection or a complete red herring?

Can we have another clue to narrow down further the category of early English 20th century composers who lived in a nice house?

Oddly the plaque says 1919, but the text on the webpage says 1912  Roll Eyes

I was wondering if it might be someone whose initials give V.D., B.O., B.F. (whoops, there is one of those), T.B., or something like that?

Ah, sorry, I see that it's already been answered correctly! Maybe we can have an easier one, such as this? Wink

Here is a serious (and difficult) one: who, where, and which piece? Clue - also British, early 20th century.

Sorry, no. To do with a piece inspired by that place.

Ian,

Are both photos the same place? The bottom one looks like Versailles Palace.

Wow - I'm sure the proprietors of that hotel would be extraordinarily pleased to hear you say that! They are around the same place - the composer in question had a walk where he looked at both these things, which inspired a piece. Here is the place in question today:

Here's one to keep us going:

I reckon the

Who? (three musicians)
What? (they are playing)
When? (the year)

can be determined - especially if you are my age or older - at least one musician should be recognisable and then a bit of skill can deal with the rest of the Who?What? When?
