Correct tonybob, ahinton, e is Donald Tovey, a composer completely absent from my shelves.

His symphony and some concertos can be found, but I don't think his opera Bride of Dionysus is currently available - the prelude can be found, and indeed was played on R3 Sunday Breakfast a few weeks ago

a Michael Tippett
b Ernest Tomlinson
c Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams
d ? & Arthur Sullivan
e Donald Tovey

Hmm, have just noticed this.

The man with Sullivan in (d) is the Scottish composer Alexander Mackenzie.

A composer and an important organist? That reminds me of:

On a grave stone is written: "Here lies a fantastic organist and an excellent musician." [Beecham then comments...] "What, both in the same grave?"

Oh dear. How do I know these things? That's going to do my reputation in the world of contemporary music no good at all, is it!
