Bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose No 14 is James McCracken and Sandra Warfield?

17 is not Edita Gruberova - you need to go back a generation - this was taken during the interval picnic at Glyndebourne, 1955.

14 isn't James McCracken and Sandra Warfield, but they are American.

15 is a French-Canadian couple

Aha!  Leopold Simoneau and Pierrette Alaire (not because I have the faintest idea what they look like, but because they're the only French-Canadian operatic couple I can think of).

Ah, pw, I made a mistake with my clue, which should have been for Couple No.15. They were indeed Léopold Simoneau and Pierrette Alarie, who feature together in my recording of Bizet's Les pêcheurs de perles, although I gather he was more a Mozartian tenor. Simoneau only died in 2006; Alarie is still with us.

Oh, I don't know about that - if that's the recording I think it is, Simoneau sings exquisitely.

He certainly does. I got it on the basis of a BaL recommendation and his Je crois entendre encore is wonderfully done.

Is correct, John.

Just couple no.13 left. He was a famous Wagnerian. She was famous in Mozart (especially Pamina), Strauss (she sang all three main female roles in Der Rosenkavalier) and several modern operas.
